The New School Operations Manager, Institute for Transformative Mentoring in New York, New York


The Center for New York City Affairs is an applied public policy research organization based in the Milano School at the New School. The Center offers analysis and solutions to pressing social and economic challenges. In early 2017, the Center launched the Institute for Transformational Mentoring (ITM), a dynamic new training program focused on the development of credible messengers – formerly incarcerated mentors – working in the social services fields throughout New York City. These mentors help young people navigate community violence and avoid the criminal justice system. The Institute was developed in partnership with social service employers and responds to the need for professional development and support for this vital workforce. The Institute also offers a program for young adults that includes an intensive summer program and a new year-round training and subsidized work experience for aspiring peer mentors.

The Operations Manager will be responsible for programmatic and administrative logistics. This position is a critical member of a small team where staff members work collaboratively and are often expected to pitch in on a wide range of projects. This position reports to the Program Director of ITM.

This position is funded by and contingent upon external fundraising.


  • Manage the daily operations of the program.
  • Manage and track ongoing budget expenditures.
  • Direct all event planning for ITM.
  • Oversee course planning working directly with Academic Planning in the Executive Dean’s Office.
  • Manage student registration.
  • Maintain database of a range of student information for new, continuing and prospective students.
  • Track student enrollment, student activities and learning outcomes.
  • Support reporting, evaluation, and development.
  • Supervise ITM program staff and student workers as needed.
  • Additional tasks as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree with relevant experience.
  • Strong attention to detail and demonstrated ability to effectively multi-task.
  • Strong analytical abilities and technical skills; able to analyze and evaluate data, develop reports, and make recommendations based on analysis.
  • Ability to work effectively with faculty, students, administrators, alumni, and the University community.
  • Ability to work well under pressure, meet deadlines, problem solve; can work well both independently and in team-based settings.
  • Strong attention to detail skills, and demonstrated ability to effectively multi-task.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to supervise staff/students.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree
  • 3 years relevant work experience.
  • Strong organizational skills with strong ability for creative problem solving skills and diligent follow up.
