NYU Rory Meyers College of Nursing Part-time Field Research Assistants in New York, New York

The Strengthening the Architecture for High Quality Universal Pre-K (https://steinhardt.nyu.edu/ihdsc/projects/nyupk) research study at New York University is seeking individuals to support remote recruitment efforts in the summer of 2021. The project is being led by Dr. Pamela Morris and Dr. Elise Cappella, and it aims to evaluate how professional supports given to preschool teachers are: 1) improving teachers’ classroom practices and 2) fostering children’s academic and social-emotional development. Notably, the project is being conducted in the context of New York City’s Pre-K for All (http://teachnyc.net/pathways-to-teaching/early-childhood-education/all-about) initiative, a nationally-recognized effort to provide high-quality preschool opportunities to every child in the city. The research project ultimately aims to contribute to education scholarship and to provide New York City’s policy leaders with valuable data that will help them strengthen preschool programming across the city.

By working as a field research assistant (RA), you will have the opportunity to engage directly in the recruitment effort which is fundamental to project success. Specifically, RAs will be expected to build relationships with principals, site leaders, teachers and other school officials in pre-k sites throughout New York City in a primarily remote context. We are not planning for in-person work at this time, though this may change if research assistants live locally, are vaccinated, DOE and NYU policy permit in-person work, and the candidate is comfortable making in-person visits to sites. Those hired will be expected to effectively communicate research information to school officials through email, phone, and Zoom. Additionally, RAs will need to record all correspondence and meetings with school officials using Google Sheets and Google Calendar and meet regularly with NYU project staff. RAs will be provided regular feedback on their performance through conversations with project management. At the end of the summer, project management will provide a comprehensive performance review. This position is a short-term, part-time opportunity (between 12-20 hours per week), though the exact hours can be discussed on an individual-basis. There may also be an opportunity to extend employment into the Fall semester in order to support the recruitment of families.

Commitment and Duration:

  • Commit to working at least 3 days per week during the recruitment period (as early as June-September) from 8am-4pm EST;

  • Must be able to commit at least 12 hours per week

  • Must be willing to undergo a background check through the NYC Department of Education, or provide proof of previous fingerprint clearance to work in NYC Department of Education schools;

  • Attendance at a 3-day virtual training (dates and times TBD);

  • Comply with all data security and confidentiality requirements;

Compensation:
