JOB DESCRIPTION

School Support Nurse

Job Summary:

This role will support Bank Street's Children Programs, including the School for Children, Family Center, Summer Camp, After School, Liberty Leads, and Head Start. The School Support Nurse will be responsible for supporting the collection and maintenance of all student medical records and providing daily health services to students and staff. The nurse will report to the Director of Finance, Operations, & Analytics and will work closely with other school staff.

Wage: $35-$45 / hour

Hours: The primary hours of this role are Monday through Friday 3 PM to 6 PM while school is in session. Some hours outside of this schedule may be required based on the needs of the school.

Location: This is a fully in-person position. The role will primarily be located at the main building located at 612 West 112th Street.

Responsibilities:

Health Record Keeping

  • Maintaining up-to-date health records in Magnus Health, Blackbaud, and Online Registry databases, as well as other data systems in use by Bank Street. This includes collecting all family medical forms and ensuring their forms meet Bank Street requirements. Regularly follow up with families missing forms through emails, phone calls, and in person conversations.
  • Support with the maintenance and upkeep of all aspects of the school health data system.
  • Support with compliance reporting.
  • Updating and maintaining Allergy, Asthma and Medical Conditions List. Communicating medical needs of students to teachers and other staff.
Health Care for Students & Staff
  • Administer medication and the support with creating healthcare plans for students.
  • Responding to and evaluating emergency and non-emergency care needs.
  • Conduct hearing, vision and growth screenings as needed. Performing lice checks for students in accordance with school policies. Lice checks include class-wide checks, grade-wide checks, and other lice prevention measures in accordance with school policy..
  • Maintain up to date treatment notes.
  • Keep relevant school staff informed about the health status of students.
Communication With Families
  • Support with sending communications to families following school policies in response to COVID, lice, and any health-related concerns regarding transmission amongst numerous students and classes.
  • Contacting families for collecting medical forms, informing of injuries, and for other health-related reasons.
Other Responsibilities
  • Other responsibilities as assigned.
Qualifications and requirements:
  • Registered Nurse in New York State (Current Licensure)
  • CPR/First Aid/AED Certified
  • Pediatric nursing experience preferable
  • Experience with Magnus Health or other student/patient tracking systems is a plus
  • Strong organizational and clear communication skills
  • A compassionate approach to care
  • Ability to manage high stress situations and maintain accuracy in multi-tasking
  • Willingness to participate in all school activities and support and contribute to the school community.
