THE VENUE
Legends is the official hospitality partner for the food service areas at the Intrepid Museum, a premier tourism destination in the heart of New York City. The partnership includes full quick service restaurant, an outdoor seasonal kiosk serving beverage and snacks and a lighter fare concept aboard the ship serving sandwiches and flat breads along with grab and go items. With the opportunity of serving up to 10,000 guests 363 days a year, Legends has created a culture of fast and friendly service at the Intrepid.
THE ROLE
The Porter position is responsible for performing the daily cleaning and warehouse duties to maintain the sanitation and organization of the kitchens and dining outlets at the Intrepid. The position entails positive engagement with the visitors at the museum in addition to our internal guests.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Receive food and paper goods deliveries and stock in appropriate areas according to outlet
Organize and maintain all stock and dry storage areas
Wash utensils, china and kitchen equipment and return to appropriate storing place
Clean all equipment, pots, pans and equipment in three compartment sink
Sweep and mop all floors in the kitchen daily
Maintain cleanliness of kitchen equipment and stainless steel surfaces
Monitor garbage levels in dining spaces and replace as necessary, take all garbage out at conclusion of shifts and place in proper reciprocals
Assist with dining room maintenance throughout the shift to include wiping tables, sweeping and mopping
Organize, sweep and mop walk in refrigerators
Assist kitchen management with organization of freezers and reach in refrigerators
Performs and assists with routine inventory on a daily basis of all required stock per area of responsibility
Responsible for weekly and monthly kitchen deep cleans of floors, equipment and assignments per kitchen management
Responsible for transport of equipment and food for special events
Assist kitchen staff with cold prep and running food to customers in dining area
Perform other duties as assigned by supervision
QUALIFICATIONS
To perform this job successfully, the candidate must be able to perform each essential duty above at the highest levels. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
All applicants must be at least 18 years of age
High School Diploma or equivalent preferred
Ability to interact with colleagues to assure compliance with company service standards
Must have basic knowledge of sanitation practices, cleaning chemicals, food and beverage preparations, service standards, guest relations and etiquette
Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced, team orientated setting
Must be able to read, speak and write effectively to communicate with colleagues and guests
Ability to lift and transport items weighing 10-50 pounds
Ability to work all extended hours, nights, weekends, and holidays
Must have sufficient mobility to perform assigned production tasks including: constant reaching, bending, wiping, pushing, and pulling for extended periods of time
Practice safe work habits, follow all safety policies and procedures and regulations, complete company-wide safety training and additional job specific safety training
