The Role: The Porter performs custodial duties and delivers a high level of customer service at the Sirovich Center for Balanced Living. The Porter will be responsible for responding to various types of maintenance requests, including but not limited to: moving furniture, equipment, supplies in and around the building, and performs a variety of housekeeping duties to maintain the Sirovich Center in an orderly, safe and sanitary condition. The Porter is also responsible for the exterior of the building, snow and ice removal and upkeep of the grounds.

  • Direct contact with Sirovich management team to ensure task are completed as requested;

  • High level of customer service with internal staff and customers;

  • Direct contact with internal and external vendors.

Responsibilities:

Routine Cleaning and Building Maintenance – 80%

  • Utilize and maintain assigned equipment, power tools, and hand-operated tools, such as ladders, aerial work platforms, high-pressure washers, high-speed buffers and vacuums, snow-blowers, dust cloths, brooms, and mops for cleaning, disinfection and general maintenance of floors, walls, carpets, fixtures, furniture and windows of facilities within building and grounds;

  • Responsible for routine cleaning of restrooms at least twice a day and more frequently during peak hours;

  • Responsible for routine cleaning of offices, lobby, front vestibule, hallways, staircases, railings, and landings at least once a day;

  • Responsible for ensuring that the dining room, auditorium, and all other program spaces are routinely cleaned and ready for program used throughout the day;

  • Responsible for routine cleaning of Sirovich kitchen mats at least twice a week and Sirovich/ORE kitchen floors, including under storage shelves, on a daily basis;

  • Responsible for checking & restocking paper towels, sanitizer, soap, and tissue dispensers in restrooms, art studios, multipurpose rooms, and kitchens at least twice a day;

  • Removes or clears rubbish cans or other refuse and disposes of all garbage in appropriate trash or recycling containers at least twice a day.

Event Set Up and Breakdown – 15%

  • Prepare rooms for classes, meetings, special events, and other activities by moving and arranging furniture, equipment, supplies, and tools on a daily basis.

Other – 5%

  • Accepts and transport deliveries, utilizing hand trucks and dollies as necessary, organizes building and cleaning supplies in the storage area, and informs administrative staff of the need for new supplies;

  • Efficiently fulfill other custodial duties, including painting surfaces, polishing brass fixtures, watering plants, salt-spreading, and removal of snow and debris from the sidewalk;

  • Repair electrical outlets, windows, and leader of gutters;

  • Perform minor plumbing and bracing;

  • Report and respond to emergency calls for custodial assistance;

  • Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Requirements:

  • High School Diploma or GED required. Trade School and/or one-year maintenance experience preferred.

  • Ability to work safely in an environment containing caustic chemicals, pesticides, cleaning materials, dust, and noise; safely dispose of hazardous materials; and identify stains and use proper chemicals for their removal.

  • Operate manual and power equipment.

  • Must be extremely dependable, punctual, detail-oriented, and a good communicator with staff and customers alike.

  • Work effectively in and around the public; consistently courteous and respectful.

  • Ability to understand and carry out oral and written directions as needed;

  • Maintain cooperative working relationships; demonstrate sensitivity to, and respect for, a diverse population.

  • Self-motivated, highly efficient, and follows up upon completion of tasks/assignments.

  • Able to work a flexible schedule as needed (during seasonal events).

Physical Requirements

  • Must be able to perform physical activities, such as, but not limited to, lifting/moving heavy items (over 50 lbs.), bending, climbing or walking, and standing for extended periods of time (up to 7 hours per/day).

  • Routinely required to work under all weather conditions, inside and outside of building.

  • Ability to work independently or in a team.
