In this key role, you will be responsible for support of product management, business development, growth and profitability of the following products (primarily): Private Company D&O (Privatus)/Middle Market and EPL. Secondarily supports Public Directors and Officers Liability, including Side A, and Fiduciary Liability Products. Recognized as a technical expert within your underwriting specialty, you will assist Product Managers to drive business results through strong underwriting, sales, marketing, and relationship building skills. You will build and maintain high quality working relationships with wholesale/retail brokers and internal business partners - Claims, Actuarial, Field Underwriting, Product Development, etc.NOTE - Location is flexible.

Key Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Manages the underwriting of a profitable portfolio of (primarily) Private D&O (Privatus), middle market and EPL. Secondarily supports Public D&O, including Side A, and Fiduciary Liability

  • Sets product strategy for a profitable portfolio in assigned products based on pertinent underwriting, financial, and competitive analysis and in line with company and departmental compliance requirements.

  • Develops and supports business strategies to effectively achieve profit and growth objectives for assigned products and locations through sound underwriting and responsible marketing.

  • Acts as underwriting resource and authority for assigned products.

  • Develops underwriting strategies for assigned product lines and delivers educational content to underwriting teams and brokers.

  • As needed, develops and/or approves specialized policy and endorsement language for highly complex risks, working in conjunction with counsel and claims.

  • Analyzes quality and quantity of portfolio written; prepares and presents reports to CMS management.

  • Supports distribution focused initiatives for appointed wholesale/retail brokers, MGAs, etc.

  • Develops and maintains broker relationships to reach positive and profitable outcomes.

  • Keeps current on state and regional issues and regulations, industry activity and trends. May participate in industry trade groups.

  • Mentors and guides less experienced underwriters. Assists in the development of underwriting and product training and education.

  • Responsible for special underwriting projects, Duck Creek maintenance and presentations as requested by Lead Product Manager or EVP of CMS.

Required Education/Training & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience. Professional designations preferred.

  • Minimum of 5-7 years of financial lines experience.

  • Advanced technical expertise, underwriting skills and a very high level of knowledge of insurance and underwriting principles, practices and procedures

  • Strong communication, negotiation and presentation skills

  • Ability to effectively interact with all levels of internal and external business partners

  • Advanced analytical and creative problem-solving skills, with the ability to manage and prioritize multiple projects

  • In-depth knowledge of the Private and Public Company Directors and Officers and supporting products

  • Strong relationships with distribution partners; influencing and negotiation skills

  • Ability to effectively analyze and assess individual and portfolio risk

  • Demonstrated technical knowledge and skills reflective of a progression of positions with increasing responsibility

  • CPCU and ARM a plus

  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and other business-related software
