Macmillan Publicity Assistant, Flatiron Books in New York, New York

Description

Flatiron Books is looking for an entry level Publicity Assistant to join our publicity department. This person will report to the Publicity Manager, but will work with the entire department on various campaigns. This is a great opportunity to work with a highly focused team on diverse projects that include fiction, non-fiction, lifestyles titles, cookbooks, and young adult titles.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Administrative duties for the publicity department, including maintenance of media database and distribution of seasonal catalogs and reviewer checklists

  • Draft press releases and pitch materials for new books

  • Assist with media campaigns for a wide range of fiction and nonfiction titles

  • Research media and review outlets, media and review contacts, and event venues

  • Assist in coordinating author readings, tours, and travel schedules

  • Communicate comfortably and professionally with a variety of authors, editors, and media

  • Facilitate advance copy and finished book mailings and outreach to book critics, TV and radio producers, review editors, and bloggers

Required Skills / Knowledge:

  • Have a working understanding of the literary landscape and a general knowledge of book media

  • Ability to multi-task while working in a fast paced environment

  • Exceptional organizational skills

  • Ability to prioritize, meet deadlines and work independently

  • Superior writing and communication skills

  • Ability and willingness to work with social media, Excel and various media databases

Experience Needed:

  • Entry level, but prior experience in publishing or media is preferred

Educational Background Required:

  • Bachelor’s Degree, preferably in a relevant subject area
