Scholastic Publicity Manager in New York, New York

Job Description:

THE OPPORTUNITY

The Publicity Manager role is an opportunity to take ownership of innovative publicity campaigns for both young adult and children’s book authors and illustrators with the goal of driving sales, increasing visibility, and promoting the Scholastic mission. This fast-paced position requires the ability to work well under pressure, multi-task, meet tight deadlines, and help mentor junior members of the team. The Publicity Manager will communicate regularly and effectively with authors, members of the press, booksellers, and the Scholastic marketing, editorial, and sales teams. The ideal candidate will have a track record of successful publicity campaigns and excellent written/verbal communication skills. This position will report to the VP, Publicity.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Pitch and secure national media for high-profile campaigns

  • Plan multi-city author tours, festival appearances, special events

  • Oversee one publicity team member and their campaigns, including guidance on pitches, strategy in tour planning, and author/editor relationship management, and provide mentorship to other more junior members of the team

  • Department management responsibilities, together with the Associate Director and VP, Publicity (sales materials, prep for seasonal sales conferences, budget planning etc.)

  • Liaise with marketing, editorial, and sales team on campaign strategy and planning

Qualifications

HOW YOU CAN FIT (Qualifications)

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail

  • Solid relationships with media, event partners and booksellers

  • Excellent writing and communication skills

  • Familiarity with media databases such as Muck Rack and Cision a plus

  • Knowledge of/experience in children’s books and media preferred

Education: Bachelor’s degree or higher

Experience: 5-7 years’ experience in book publicity
