JPMorgan Chase Real Estate Banker - Workforce Housing Solutions - Executive Director in New York, New York

Join the team expanding J.P. Morgan Chase's leadership in affordable housing to provide financing for workforce and mixed-income multifamily properties.

As an Executive Director Commercial Banker within the Workforce Housing Solutions group, you will be responsible for developing, growing, and managing developer relationships to generate revenue opportunities. You will become a trusted advisor to clients and a variety of capital sources, and serve as a resource to internal colleagues throughout the country. You will bring a demonstrated passion for affordable housing innovation and a proven track record of financing multifamily construction projects with non-LIHTC equity sources. You will be an integral part of a team working to develop solutions that increase housing affordability, at scale, supported by the firm's resources and decades of leadership in community development and commercial real estate finance.

J.P. Morgan Chase's Community Development Banking (CDB) business is a national leader in community development finance for affordable housing and economic development projects. CDB offers financing for projects of any size and complexity, including construction, bridge, and permanent lending for Low Income Housing Tax Credit (LIHTC) and non-LIHTC affordable, workforce and mixed-income housing, CDFI financing, and Historic Tax Credit and New Markets Tax Credit investing. CDB's clients include: for-profit and not-for-profit real estate developers; government entities engaged in housing and economic development; and community-based organizations.

Workforce Housing Solutions is an innovative business line within CDB that provides financing to catalyze rent-restricted workforce and mixed-income housing for a broader income range than traditional affordable or market rate housing. We leverage capital sources other than Low Income Housing Tax Credit (LIHTC) equity to provide balance-sheet construction and permanent debt, as well as Agency execution, for diverse projects throughout the country. Workforce Housing Solutions also provides valuable insights to a broad range of entities interested in developing and financing workforce housing, such as healthcare systems, higher education institutions, traditional real estate and impact equity funds, and public sector agencies.

Job responsibilities

  • Manage client relationships and initiate strategic dialogue around real estate credit and overall financial needs

  • Identify clients and solicit debt opportunities for multifamily residential projects with rent restrictions on at least half of the housing units

  • Collaborate with dedicated underwriting team and Credit Risk colleagues throughout analysis, due diligence, transaction structuring, credit approval and loan closing

  • Communicate with loan administration colleagues to maintain awareness of construction progress, appropriateness of draw requests, adequacy of debt and equity sources, time delays, cost overruns, usage of contingency funds and compliance with legal documents

  • As an internal subject matter expert, collaborate with and advise banking colleagues on potential structuring opportunities, challenges and additional resources to serve them and their clients on workforce housing transactions

  • Support the business management of the overall Workforce Housing Solutions platform

  • Appropriately assess transactional risk via thorough knowledge of Sponsor, financial, legal, construction management and market considerations

  • Confidently interact with C-suite executives during business development and in negotiation of acceptable credit terms and structure for complicated transactions

  • Represent the Bank at industry conferences and events as a speaker and active participant

  • Stay apprised of market intelligence and contribute to industry thought leadership

Required qualifications, capabilities, and skills

  • Minimum 10 years of related work experience

  • Superior analytical and quantitative skills, with successful track record structuring and closing multifamily housing transactions with seasoned Sponsors

  • Knowledge of non-LIHTC capital sources and institutional partners that have a strategic focus to produce workforce and mixed-income housing

  • Highly motivated and entrepreneurial

  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills

  • Familiar with Microsoft Excel, Word and PowerPoint

  • Bachelor's degree required

Preferred qualifications, capabilities, and skills

  • MBA or advanced degree
