HKS Architects Regional Practice Leader - Life Sciences in New York, New York

Overview:

HKS is looking for an experienced, seasoned professional to lead our Life Science Practice in our East Coast Region.

An HKS Regional Practice Leader manages the overall market strategy of the Life Science practice in conjunction with the Sector Leader, Regional Director and with input from the Studio Leaders and Office Directors. Grows and develops HKS' presence in their respective region and respective practice area; becomes an identifiable leader, both externally and internally, focused on the respective sector. Develops and implements a strategy for expansion of the firm's respective regional practice portfolio.

A Regional Practice Leader is also responsible for developing and maintaining systems and processes within a specific regional practice to ensure quality and consistency of designs and the integration and leveraging of other HKS resources.

The Practice Leader collaborates to carry out vision for the regional practice through frequent communication with teams and is responsible for supporting Office and Studio Directors so they can implement projects and serve clients with purpose and clarity.

Responsibilities:
Leads the development and implementation of their respective regional practice market strategy in concert with HKS firm goals and strategic plan
Acts as a responsible and knowledgeable senior-level face of HKS's regional Life Science practice when engaging prospective clients or other influencers, particularly at the executive level
Sustain and grow revenue within the Life Science market, helping to achieve top line growth for the practice, and working collaboratively with the project team to achieve key operational performance metrics.
Play a key leadership role and be an essential part of a project team working on all phases of a design project from Programming and Schematic Design through Construction Administration in the Academic, Healthcare, and Corporate Life Science practice.
Mentors staff in business development and marketing with knowledge of respective sector
Sets overall project targets and monitoring performance to meet or exceed them
Coordinates with office leadership on managing overall project budgets and milestone schedules; leading periodic project meetings and presentations; ensuring clients and team members are adequately briefed on projects throughout the planning process
Oversees efforts in attracting, training, retaining, growing and recognizing diverse talent
Oversees regional practice financial performance
Contributes to setting overall project revenue and profitability targets and monitoring performance to meet or exceed them
Assists and supports Practice, Studio, Design and Office Directors in new business development and marketing strategies, including looking for opportunities for repeat work with clients
Collaborates and strategizes with Business Development and other Regional and Sector leadership on marketing efforts and industry events to maintain existing client relationships, establish new business and maintain a strong voice in the industry
Assists and provides oversight in negotiation of scope and fees on contracts as needed
Participate in marketing interviews
Maintains visibility for HKS within the industry through participation in industry events and development of pertinent content demonstrating leadership and thought leadership
Travel will be required

Qualifications:
Accredited professional degree in Architecture, Interior Design or relevant years in education or experience
Licensure or certification in chosen field strongly preferred
Typically, 15+ years of experience, including experience as an office director or studio director with demonstrated success in both project work, business development, and talent development
Sustainable design accreditation preferred
Proven ability to attract work through in-depth knowledge of Life Science practice's building trends in the area
Excellent presentation skills
Strong leadership, organization, communication, and relationship management skills
Strong organizational skills
