Supportive housing - affordable housing paired with services designed to help people maintain their homes for the long-term - is widely recognized as a proven and cost-effective solution to chronic homelessness.

But we didn't stop at providing housing. Breaking Ground's programs and services help people experiencing street homelessness - especially those who have been on the streets the longest - to come indoors. Through our Street to Home outreach program and transitional housing resources, we help people get, and stay, on the path to a permanent home.

Breaking Ground embraces a housing first and harm reduction philosophy with an aim at helping residents secure appropriate permanent housing. Reporting to the Director, Operations and Logistics, theSeasonal Helper contributes to ending homelessness by acting as a liaison for Breaking Groun d staff, the community, and clients who are chronically street homeless. TheSeasonal Helper will assist in many facets and will play an integral part of the team.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: (Summer Intern): · Answer telephone system while taking messages and directing calls accordingly · Manage walk-ins and telephone inquiries, direct people to the appropriate Breaking Ground building, program or service · Compose, type, and edit correspondence, reports, memoranda and other material · Attend meeting and take notes · Coordinate events · Prepare/Send/Track Interview Invite and/or waitlist update letters to eligible applicants Contact applicants to update documents as needed · Perform credit/criminal background checks, determine initial eligibility of applicants and send initial eligible and ineligible letters to applicants; · review initial verifications of applicants’ housing/income/assets (applicants, 3rd parties) · Confirm applicant’s eligibility and conduct lease signings · Conduct unit showings · Assist with reporting and data management systems for internal BG systems, and DHS, HRA systems. · Perform other related duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications: · Minimum of two years of experience in administrative support or related position · Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills · Must have the ability to work independently and as part of a team · Must be able to handle multiple tasks simultaneously · Must have exceptional written and verbal skills · High school diploma or equivalent · Must have strong Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel skills Consistent with NYC’s mandate, all Breaking Ground employees, interns, volunteers and subcontractors are required to be in receipt of an FDA authorized and/or approved COVID-19 vaccination and provide a one-time verification of immunization as a condition of employment.
