Position Summary: Senior Academic Advisor Position Responsibilities: Meet with students to review course selection and create course schedules Review students' records and perform informal junior and senior checks Advise students on meeting graduation requirements Review and approve requests to take outside courses (summer school)-involves reviewing outside syllabi, course descriptions, length of sessions Review requests to audit a course; to P/N a course and to enter courses requiring special permission Advise majors on course selection/ sequence and related careers Follow up with faculty and students on "Incomplete" grades Update and maintain departmental information such as Major Fact sheets Consult with faculty to identify recipients of academic awards Conduct academic sessions at orientation Collaborate with Director of Disability Services to assist with special academic needs Serve on policy committees such as Students at Risk Committee Assist department chairs in guiding students in their applications to graduate schools Serve as key team members for the Yeshiva Success Network (YSN - Starfish) Experience & Educational Background: Master's degree and a minimum of 5 years' experience preferred Skills & Competencies: Detail oriented, strong interpersonal skills and sensitivity to students Needs ability to make sound judgments and good organizational skills Fosters encourages and facilitates open communication and an atmosphere of open expression and communication Gains cooperation by explicitly addressing others interests and concerns Demonstrates personal commitment in actions taken and decisions made Continually searches for ways to increase satisfaction of faculty, students, staff and other constituents Actions are consistent with university strategic and operational objectives and standards Supports fair treatment and equal opportunity for all and enforces that policy within his/her sphere of influence Excellent writing skills to help students prepare personal statements for law school Advisors work with a great degree of independence but need to coordinate with each other The advisors meet on a daily basis with the Director of Academic Advisement They interface primarily with the Office of the Registrar, Office of Student Affairs, Office of Admissions and Office of Student Finance Salary Range: $60,000 to $70,000 About Us: Founded in 1886, Yeshiva University (YU) has a strong tradition of combining Jewish scholarship with academic excellence and achievement in the liberal arts, sciences, medicine, law, business, social work, Jewish studies, education, psychology, and more.
