GENERAL DUTIES

Completes non-teaching projects or complex work in support of a Campus or University administrative or academic department. This work is generally of a temporary nature and requires specialized experience or expertise.

CAMPUS SPECIFIC INFORMATION

The CUNY Graduate Center’s Writing Center invites applications for a Senior Consultant. This is a Non-teaching Adjunct, 1 position and is for 10-20 hours per week, with a maximum of 225 hours for the fall semester, 225 hours for the spring semester, and 175 hours for the summer semester.

The Writing Center supports GC students in reaching their writing goals. Our office sponsors a wide range of writing support services, including:

  • One-on-one consultations to work on term papers, chapters, articles, job materials, grant applications, etc. at any stage in the drafting and revision process.

  • Workshops and webinars on topics like goal-setting, structuring for argument-based writing, abstracts, research management tools, advanced outlining, revising an essay into an article, and many others.

  • Accountability groups, writing cohorts, and dissertation writing clinics.

  • Digital resources, including past webinars, informative guides, and more.

The Writing Center is continually striving to expand its student outreach by promoting in-office services and scheduled events. Senior Consultants are responsible for an administrative portfolio that takes their particular interests and skillsets into account. Senior Consultants report to the Director of the Writing Center and will be expected to work both independently and in collaboration with other consultants, graduate Writing Fellows, and the Director.

The Senior Consultant duties include but are not limited to:

  • Graduate writing consultations.

  • Workshop design and implementation.

  • Event planning, organizing, and promotion.

  • Communications, social media, and marketing.

  • Curating content for the website.

  • Data tracking through survey records and summaries.

  • Trains and mentor’s staff.

  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

More generally, consultants are expected to manage relevant email correspondence, attend regular staff meetings, and maintain an accurate log of hours worked.

Until further notice, this is a hybrid position, eligible to work remotely and work on-site in the office.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor's Degree required.

OTHER QUALIFICATIONS

A preferred candidate should have:

  • PhD degree.

  • Experience working in a graduate writing center.

  • A minimum of three years of experience working in a writing center.

COMPENSATION

$59.00/hour
