Columbia University Senior Director, Faculty Recruitment and Communication Strategy in New York, New York

Position Summary

Reporting directly to the Associate Dean of Faculty Affairs, the Senior Director of Faculty Recruitment and Communication Strategy will lead the recruitment of faculty to teach in SPS’s interdisciplinary master’s degree programs, certificate programs, and non-degree programs. In order to attract top scholars and practitioners, key aspects of this position include the identification of experts in relevant fields, the development of program-specific and school-wide recruitment strategies, development and oversight of CRM/systems management, and leading partnership and development efforts with academic directors. This position will also be accountable for the design and implementation of a robust faculty communication strategy across the school, working closely with the Dean’s Office, external relations, and marketing teams to ensure that the goals, priorities, and initiatives align with the needs and the strategy of the School. As a senior member of the faculty affairs team, this person will be responsible for relationship management across the University (provost’s office, executive vice president’s office, and Equal Opportunity and Affirmative Action office) and SPS (Dean’s Office, academic directors, academic affairs, student affairs, administrative affairs, and other key stakeholders) to both recruit and raise the visibility of faculty for the School.


Faculty Recruitment :

  • Lead recruitment lifecycle for high-volume, full-time and part-time faculty searches across sixteen master’s degree programs and several non-degree programs in advance of each semester (fall, spring, summer) and academic year through sourcing, screening, and interview management

  • Collaborate with academic directors and search chairs to determine faculty hiring needs in a fast-paced, enrollment-driven environment

  • Design and implement robust recruitment strategies to attract and hire top-level scholars and practitioners that support strategic hiring goals through multi-media advertising, social media, and networking; partner with marketing team to establish a social media communication strategy for different positions as necessary; accountable for development of job postings as it relates to academic director and search chair’s needs

  • Develop metrics to measure and track hiring trends; leverage analytics and best practices to build successful recruiting strategies and reports

  • Build and maintain strong candidate relationships with prospective candidates to create robust pipeline for future semesters

Faculty Communication Strategy :

  • Manage the creation of the faculty communication strategic plan with relevant stakeholders, including the Dean’s Office, academic directors, and faculty to increase the visibility and accomplishments of faculty across the School

  • Engage academic directors and faculty across the School to ensure over-arching faculty communication goals, services, tactics, and initiatives are aligned; gather feedback on services and drive continued improvement in faculty communications support and offerings

  • Review targeted outcomes and timelines of faculty communication strategy to ensure consistency across the academic programs

  • Partner with marketing team and other key stakeholders to ensure the effectiveness and impact of faculty communication initiatives for communication strategy, media, public relations, and digital engagement

  • Monitor and incorporate industry best practices in overall communications functions to drive continuous improvement

Other :

  • Attend relevant conferences to stay current on market trends to ensure recruiting and communication efforts support strategic planning efforts

  • Performs other duties and special projects as assigned or requested

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree required; advanced degree desirable

  • 5 years related experience

Preferred Qualifications

  • Strong preference given to those with experience recruiting in the financial and/or business sectors; university recruiting experience preferred, but not required

  • Marketing experience as it relates to data-driven recruitment highly desired

  • Bachelor’s degree preferably in areas related to business, management, human resources, or equivalent; Master’s degree in relevant field preferred
