The Conference Board is recruiting for a new position for a Senior Director in the areas of Financial Markets and Corporate Markets. The Senior Director will develop and lead the research program and act as The Conference Board’s most prominent thought leader in this area. With regard to Financial Markets, the focus will be primarily on the business implications of capital market performance, monetary policies, and actions of central banks and other financial institutions for financial decision making. For Corporate Finance, the focus will be on quantitative and qualitative drivers of capital investment decisions, but may also cover other topics with regard to financial management and operations, including sourcing, taxation, treasury and accounting functions.
PRINCIPAL DIRECT ACTIVITIES
Designs, conducts and manages multiple research projects in the area of Financial Markets and Corporate Finance. Assumes direct responsibility for each phase of the project (design, execution, and writing).
Conducts literature searches, data-gathering activities (e.g., interviews, focus groups and survey instruments), and data analysis, using appropriate quantitative or qualitative techniques. Draws objective findings and conclusions within the limits of the research design.
Acts as a trusted advisor to executives from member organizations through participating in the presentation of research findings and related insights through multiple channels, including council and conference presentations, member briefings and consultations.
Acts as a primary spokesperson for The Conference Board with the media (written and spoken) on matters related to Finance, and is also available for media engagements on adjacent topics, including economy, governance, etc.
Collaborates with the editorial and production department in the timely production of research manuscripts and related deliverables, and gains necessary clearances.
Collaborates with the communication department in designing and executing communication plans for projects in development.
Is part of the team of Research Directors in Economy, Strategy and Finance to manage the research portfolio and the research team.
Is part of the Leadership Team in the Economy, Strategy and Finance Center to manage the entire running of the Center.
Collaborates with other Centers, in particular the Centers for ESG and public policy (CED).
Other duties as assigned.
REPORTING AND TEAM RELATIONSHIPS
The position reports to the Executive Vice President, Chief Economist and Head of the Economy, Strategy and Finance Center. Incumbent will be a member of the leadership team of the Economy, Strategy and Finance (ESF) Center, and will share responsibilities re: the entire ESF research program in collaboration with other Senior Research Directors and the Chief Economist. She/he will be supported by a full-time research analyst for Finance research. The position is based in the New York headquarters of The Conference Board, but requires occasional travel within the United States and internationally.
QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS
This position can be fulfilled by a seasoned researcher with significant practitioner experience in finance, or by a senior financial executive with a solid understanding of research and insights in at least one of the following business areas: corporate finance, investments, financial markets and institutions. Significant knowledge of the impact of finance on the economy and the performance of non-financial institutions is required. Experience with ESG or public policy issues is desirable.
A Master Degree or MBA in Finance and/or Economics is required; a PhD is preferred. At minimum 10-15 years of post-degree experience is required. To optimize integration of the program in the ESF Center’s overall portfolio, a demonstrable experience in connecting economic and financial analysis or research is required. CFA credentials are desirable.
The position requires strong analytical, writing, and editorial skills as well as the ability to interact effectively with business leaders and senior professionals. Demonstrable experience with presentation and public speaking, preferably at C-Suite level, is required. Three writing samples and a list of prior publications should be submitted with the application.
