The Atlantic is seeking an enthusiastic, seasoned technologist for our new Habit team, a team central to our journalistic and digital subscription ambitions. In this pivotal role, you will closely collaborate with colleagues in Editorial, Growth, Product, Design, and Data Science to bring new features to our readers across multiple products in our portfolio.
The Atlantic is a digital-first media company with more than 160 years of history and serving 36 million readers a month. As a technical organization, we use a wide range of technologies - including AWS, Python, TypeScript, React, and GraphQL - and are actively evaluating new solutions to improve our workflow and products. As a team, we value curiosity and willingness to learn over specific technical experience.
The Habit Team
The mission of our new Habit team is to facilitate deeper relationships with readers across our product portfolio. This team will:
Create the cross-platform services and "sticky" product features that allow users to engage more personally with The Atlantic.
Architect, implement and operate our next-generation, cross-platform homepage and landing pages .
Expand and enhance our email newsletters.
Partner with our external mobile development team to support our flagship iOS app and expand our native app footprint to Android.
Create tooling and services to deliver native email and mobile notifications to our readers at the most opportune time.
Pioneer several new user-facing features, including native app search, cross-device save, and follow author/series infrastructure.

Although we are operating in remote-only mode due to COVID-19 until at least July 2021, we are looking for a candidate who will be able to commute into our Washington, DC, or New York City offices when it is safe to do so.
