Pfizer Inc. Senior Manager, Science Media Relations in New York, New York
The Senior Manager will support global media relations strategies to advance Pfizer's corporate and business priorities, lead day-to-day execution for key research and development functions and divisions of Pfizer, and increase public understanding of Pfizer's work to:
deliver first-in-class science
bring medicines to the world faster
improve patient health
reduce healthcare disparities
He/she will uncover/identify compelling content for earned media storytelling opportunities and the placement of them in impactful media outlets, including those interested in Pfizer's science and research, pipeline and clinical innovation. He/she will also function as a translator of Pfizer's science for media audiences and partner closely with external communicators assigned to the research divisions on story content, proof points and strategy. He/she will continually develop relationships with relevant earned media outlets and journalists, and he/she will use that knowledge to provide insights on successful engagement strategies.
The Senior Manager will support interviews with Pfizer's scientists and science spokespeople, preparing them for successful media engagements.
The position reports to the Director, Science Media Relations and is based at the Company headquarters in New York City.
As a member of the Global Media Relations team, he/she will help further the implementation of an integrated, long-term corporate media strategy that includes and will:
Serve as a functional media relations expert to all Corporate Affairs colleagues and help to build earned media understanding among all Manage organizational interaction and relationships with earned media, including reporters, editors and digital publishers Work with the business divisions and/or functions to develop specific plans to address key opportunities and issues/crisis effectively Position Pfizer as a global leader in improving patient health Influence the operating environment by gaining coverage for Pfizer/industry perspectives on important and complex issues and/or current affairs Coordinate with regional counterparts (LatAm, EUAfME and AsiaPac) on local matters or global ones with local implications Contribute to Pfizer's digital and social media platforms, as well as the Activation team Coordinate with Legal and Regulatory to ensure alignment on key issues that broadly affect Pfizer Work effectively in cross-functional teams to advance communications strategy
Candidate demonstrates a breadth of diverse leadership experiences and capabilities including: the ability to influence and collaborate with peers, develop and coach others, oversee and guide the work of other colleagues to achieve meaningful outcomes and create business impact.
Seasoned communications professional with at least five to seven years in the pharmaceutical, biotech, medical industries or other related research environment.
Bachelor's degree in communications or related field required.
Experience in scientific story placements among top-tier, trade and relevant media required.
Experience in developing, executing, and reporting ROI of successful media strategies.
Demonstrated track record of leadership in project management, organizational skills, and attention to detail.
Ability to manage pressure, meet deadlines and monitor and evaluate results is essential.
Excellent written, oral, and communications skills, as well as interpersonal skills.
Ability to work effectively across functions and levels across highly matrixed organization and manage multiple projects against tight deadlines.
Ability to work closely with Pfizer leaders, demonstrating poise and executive presence; comfort traveling with senior management and representing broader Global Media Relations and Corporate Affairs teams.
Self-starter, able to work independently as well as with teams.
