What we need

Shutterstock is on an amazing journey to pursue our vision beyond that of stock photography, video, and audio. We are building an intelligent, creative platform where our customers ideate, publish, distribute and measure the performance of their creative supported by bleeding edge technology and AI capabilities.
We need help to build out the best ecommerce experience by understanding who our customers are, how they use our products, how to make the experience valuable, and win their hearts and minds. This requires a designer that has significant experience in ecommerce optimization in order to elevate the user experience so customers can find unique quality assets and drive fidelity by creating a one-stop shop. This person should be self-sufficient and use relationships with teams across the company to research and execute concepts, manage timelines and expectations, and ensure a smooth roll out.

The Day to Day
Lead the design of new initiatives integrated with data science and AI that will improve and optimize our ecommerce platform.
Research, synthesize, prototype, polish, document, deliver, test, rinse and repeat. Bottom line: You will get to put your favorite tools and processes to work here.
Work hand in hand with Product to identify new opportunities, run experiments, and ensure we deliver value to our users.
Join the engineering team in grooming meetings to hand-off designs. Then expect to keep the conversation going in slack, morning stand-up, and quick meetings to discuss concerns, give quality assurance feedback, or ask questions.
Run workshops where design, product, and engineering teams will collaborate to clarify or come up with solutions together. Who doesn't love a good design session?
Leverage analytics to inform design decisions and actively engage in end-to-end discovery and design processes, from research and concept ideation to final high-fidelity visual designs
Actively engage in collaborative sessions that shape decisions and plan with product, marketing, engineering, research, sales, customer care, and sales.
Extensively post GIFs and emojis throughout Slack channels.

What does the first six months look like?
Partner with a UX Researcher and a Product Manager, to run generative research sessions. Assist the UX Researcher to make personas that will guide the vision of the products, its features, and help bring empathy to the larger team.
Take the lead on creating experience maps for each persona. Then collaborate with a Product Manager to map opportunities along the journeys.
Own the overall experience for the product. Part of the ongoing process is to collaborate with a UX Researcher and Product Manager to review the analytics and user feedback to measure the success and to see where there needs to be tweaks.
Maintain an ongoing comparative research of the competitive landscape.

What you bring to the role
You are fluent in ecommerce and have a strong understanding of what conversion and retention best practices are all about.
You have at least five years of professional experience crafting across a range of products, services, workflows and user flows.
You are a proactive self-starter, comfortable with taking what is ambiguous and making it tangible by leveraging design thinking techniques like sense making and prototyping.
You'll have a strong portfolio that showcases your work, provides details of your role on projects, and shows examples of systems thinking and functional designs that you have developed from start to finish.(see Google's portfolio tips)
