Shutterstock is on an amazing journey to pursue our vision beyond that of stock photography, video, and audio. We are building an intelligent, end to end creative platform where our customers can find the content they need, ideate, publish, distribute, and measure the performance of their creative supported by bleeding edge technology and AI capabilities.

We need someone to make it easy for users to find and discover the right content to turn their idea into reality. This is not just leveraging search and browse information architecture best practices, but also leveraging machine learning and AI insights to assist users so they can find that perfect piece of content. This requires a designer who can be self-sufficient and manage timelines and expectations, use relationships with partners and stakeholders across the company to research, brainstorm, and execute concepts, and ensure a smooth roll out.
The day to day:

Lead the design of new initiatives and improvements to existing experiences related to how users find, discover, and evaluate content.

Leverage information architecture best practices as well as machine learning and AI to assist users in their journey..

Research, synthesize, prototype, polish, document, deliver, test, rinse and repeat. Bottom line: You will get to put your favorite tools and processes to work here.

Work hand in hand with Product to identify new opportunities, run experiments, and ensure we deliver value to our users.

Join the engineering team in grooming meetings to hand-off designs. Then expect to keep the conversation going in Slack, morning stand-ups, and quick meetings to discuss concerns, give quality assurance feedback, or ask questions.

Run workshops where design, product, and engineering teams will collaborate to clarify or come up with solutions together. Who doesn't love a good workshop?

Use analytics to inform design decisions and actively engage in end-to-end discovery and design processes, from research and concept ideation to final high-fidelity visual designs

Actively engage in collaborative sessions that shape decisions and plan with product, marketing, engineering, research, sales, customer care, and sales.

What does the first six months look like?

Come in, develop knowledge, and own the search, discover, and evaluate experience across the all of Shutterstock's platforms.

Design solutions for prioritized work, and test those designs with users when needed.

Audit the current experience and dive into analytics to identify opportunities for improvement.

Partner with Product Managers and UX Researchers to better understand how users use the platforms as well as to better understand their needs, goals, motivations, and other behavioral characteristics.

Take the lead on documenting the user journey leveraging experience maps for each personas and collaborate with a Product Manager to map opportunities along the journeys.

Maintain a catalog of research documenting competition as well as comparative companies' search and browse experiences..
What you bring to the role

You are fluent in search and discover ecommerce best practices and as well as a strong understanding of conversion and retention.

You have at least five years of professional experience crafting across a range of products, services, workflows and user flows.

You are a proactive self-starter, comfortable with taking what is ambiguous and making it tangible by leveraging design thinking techniques like discovery, sense making, and prototyping.

You'll have a strong portfolio that showcases your work, provides details of your role on projects, and shows examples of systems thinking and functional designs that you have developed from start to finish.(see )
