VMware Senior Product Line Manager - Opportunity for Working Remotely in New York, New York

We leverage the latest Artificial Intelligence (AI) technology to optimize networks and predict user and service experience. As a result, operators can confidently support SLAs satisfying the most latency sensitive and bandwidth intense applications.

Success in the Role: What are the performance outcomes over the first 6-12 months you will work toward completing?

  • Within 30 days of employment, you will become competent with VMware Telco Cloud Platform features and operations and understand the technical challenges the platform strives to solve. You will mainly work with the product managers, product marketing and engineering teams within the business unit.

  • Within 90 days of employment, you will be working with product managers and engineering teams across the entire VMware portfolio to drive the technical requirements which you carefully validated with the customers, partners, professional services and customer teams. You will further optimize the architecture of the product to expand the scale of the cloud, its footprint and install base, especially in the Telco Edge, RAN and Public cloud parts of the network. You will have insights and new ideas to enhance the Telco Cloud Portfolio strategy.

  • Within 180 days, you will generate new cross functional initiatives for the Telco Cloud Portfolio including pricing model enhancements that will increase the value proposition for the entire Telco Cloud Portfolio and associate those with product, sales, marketing and engineering teams as well as showcase those in customer meetings and conferences such as VMworld and Mobile World Congress.

  • Within 360 days, you will be focused on cross business unit roadmap execution, product strategy, increasing the operational efficiency inbound as well as outbound with the wide ecosystem of partners & customers, accelerating the adoption of the platform by pushing automation to the next level and by demonstrating VMware’s competitive edge.

The Work: What type of work will you be doing? What assignments, requirements, or skills will you be performing on a regular basis?

For our newly established Product Management team we are looking for a hands-on Senior Product Manager that is comfortable working in a fast-paced environment where you are customer and partner facing. The Product Manager will articulate the value proposition of the product portfolio and our platform clearly and concisely, will have the technical acumen to relate to customers’ most complex challenges and will have the technical expertise to solve them. For the global sales force, you are the senior product manager known by account teams and sales specialists as a telco cloud expert they want to have on the most critical customer calls with. As a hands-on Senior Product Manager, you can explain sophisticated technology in simple terms.

As a seasoned technical Telco Cloud expert, you’re experienced in recognizing trends in the industry, and can help extract detailed complex customer technical requirements and come up with innovative approaches as well as define the business strategy that drives our product portfolio beyond the competition.

On the inbound side, you are the customer and partner’s voice. You have a track record of establishing a strong rapport with engineering teams such that they come to you for understanding what problems customers are facing. You are well organized in documenting the requirements and execute on the roadmaps that delivers them.

Technology-wise you have a deep end-to-end understanding of mobile networking infrastructure - packet core to Radio Access Network (RAN). You have cloud native expertise and you’re up-to-date on the latest 5G cloud technology and what customers are using. Public cloud knowledge (AWS, GCP & Azure) is a major advantage to fulfil our multi-hybrid-cloud strategy.

As a Senior Product Manager, you’re also expected to have a strong understanding of portfolio pricing strategies, competitive and market driven pricing analysis, experience with transformation from perpetual to subscription-based pricing. You can come up with innovative ways to drive subscription pricing and metrics, and you have the ability to work across cross-BU teams to drive required price points and packaging.

Requirements:

  • You will drive VMware’s Telco Cloud portfolio targeted to CSPs in concert with Product Marketing, Technical Product Management and Engineering within the Service Provider and Edge BU and across other business units to deliver a great customer experience for Day 0, Day 1 and Day 2 operations.

  • You will serve as a Senior Product Manager and a Telco cloud expert team to ensure we are executing the right strategy, solving real world customer problems, and prioritizing the right work.

  • You will work closely with the cross BU product management and engineering teams to prioritize customer and partner requirements as captured in outbound engagements.

  • You will facilitate customer technical advisory boards You will collaborate with the Product Marketing Team on demo materials, PoCs and training ahead of new product releases

  • You will partner with customer account teams to enable the product betas early adoption

  • You will regularly communicate roadmap updates and requirements to sales, marketing and field teams and prioritize requirements coming from these teams aligned with the product strategy.

Professional Qualifications

  • You have experience & knowledge of the Telco Cloud Platform or directly competing products

  • You are a senior and experienced product manager, driving product strategy, product roadmap execution and pricing strategies with focus on transforming from perpetual to subscription-based models.

  • You have knowledge and experience with Cloud Native K8s solutions such as VMware Tanzu, OpenShift or similar

  • You have knowledge of VMware technology stack (ESXi, NSX, vCloud Director, vRO, vSAN) as well as data plane acceleration (EDP, SR-IOV, NUMA Awareness etc)

  • You have a solid understanding of L2-L3 networking protocols (TCP/UDP IPv4/IPv6, SCTP, BGP, MPLS etc..)

  • It is a plus if you have experience and knowledge of public cloud provider domains (AWS, GCP, Azure)

  • You must have at least 15+ years of service provider and software industry experience - ideally with a mix of product management, Solution architecture, Cloud deployment & delivery and partner management.

  • You have a proven track record of delivering successful Telco/Service provider software (4G/5G core, RAN and Edge). Experience with SaaS offerings and deployment models is a major advantage.

  • You can demonstrate experience in working across Mobile Core, RAN, and Edge to build end to end solutions

  • You have a proven track record of developing and delivering formal and informal training material and technical presentations aimed at enabling our customers, partners, or sales teams

  • You have outstanding communication skills, both written and verbal

Where is this role located?

This team is based out of VMware’s Palo Alto, CA. office. However, this role is open to fully remote work and can be done anywhere in North America or EMEA. If you live in the surrounding Bay areas, you will also have the option to work from the office partly or fully if you wish to do so.

This team is based out of VMware’s Palo Alto, CA. office. However, the team has a global reach. As such, this role is also open to fully remote and can be done anywhere in North America or EMEA. If you live in areas surrounding a VMware office, you will have the option to work from the office partly or fully if you wish to do so. If you are abroad, you have the opportunity to occasionally visit our Palo Alto, CA campus if travel conditions allow and if you have an interest in meeting the team in-person.
