We are looking for an individual with a breadth of experience regarding legal and compliance issues related to our products. This role will assist the A&H Division in the implementation and oversight of A&H products and in the effort to ensure AXIS products comply with state and federal rules and regulations. Products include:

  • Pet Insurance

  • Limited Medical Benefits

  • Blanket Accident and Accident Medical products; Special Risk

  • Business Travel Accident, Corporate Accident, AD&D

  • Distributions: Employer groups, Affinity groups



  • Prepare and negotiate A&H insurance transactional agreements such as insurance program managers’ agreements, administrative services agreements, non-disclosure agreements, service vendor contracts, etc.

  • Draft, review, and revise a variety of instruments involving the company’s interests or the interests of customers

  • Draft responses to regulatory complaints received from state Departments of Insurance

  • Draft responses for market conduct exams and inquiries from state Departments of Insurance

  • Keep informed on all legislation affecting overall company operations

Regulatory Compliance:

  • Ability to perform regulatory research and to analyze research as it applies to our products and business units

  • Provide regulatory and compliance support as needed (such as):

  • review, apply state/federal regulatory updates to products

  • provide communications to business units regarding regulatory updates

  • Work with A&H Product Development to provide legal review on A&H products

  • Provide regulatory advice to A&H underwriting units on all aspects of selling/mass marketing A&H products, including analysis of grouping issues and use of insurance trusts

  • Provide assistance in connection with the preparation and submission of A&H product filings with state regulators, including responding to objections

  • Working knowledge of A&H form and rate filing procedures/requirements by state

  • Provide Business Support (as needed)

  • review marketing materials, enrollment materials, fulfillment documents

  • work with Service Partners, third parties as required (e.g., travel assistance providers, claims TPAs)


  • JD from an accredited law school preferred, licensed to practice law in at least one state

  • Bachelors degree considered with commensurate experience

  • At least ten years of prior experience in an insurance company

  • Preferred Accident & Health Insurance legal experience; strong knowledge and understanding of U.S. Healthcare, PPACA, HIPAA, ERISA etc.

  • Excellent reading comprehension and writing skills; clear and effective communication skills (verbal and in writing)

  • Excellent PC skills and knowledge of Microsoft product suite


This position requires frequent interaction with all departments of the company (underwriting, operations, product, claims, etc.) as well as potential interaction with state insurance department personnel.The position will require a strict adherence to corporate policies and business ethics, a strong sense of individual responsibility and attention to detail. A team player mentaility is required as the position will interact with a diverse group of personalities.
