Future PLC Senior Writer, Streaming, Tom’s Guide in New York, New York

Job Summary & Purpose

Tom’s Guide is seeking an experienced senior writer to create helpful and entertaining coverage for the streaming category. Our mission is to recommend the best shows and movies to watch and help people get the most out of the services they subscribe to. This role will entail writing roundups, news, reviews, op-eds and more related to the latest shows and movies across all the major streaming services, including Netflix, Prime Video, Apple TV, Max and others..

In addition, you will be writing timely how-to watch content for shows and events, including sports, as well as reviewing streaming services and devices. You will also regularly update critical buying guides to help our readers find the best services and devices for their streaming needs. If you’re an expert on all things streaming with a strong editorial voice, this job is for you!

Key role responsibilities

  • Create several streaming articles per week, including listicles that round up the best new shows and movies to watch across all the major streaming services.

  • Write how-to watch articles timed with big show premieres and sports events; write and maintain hubs for highly anticipated shows and movies.

  • Maintain key buying guides and hubs on the best streaming services and streaming devices with consistent updates.

  • Brainstorm thoughtful analysis and opinion coverage to help Tom’s Guide stand out

  • Assist with deals coverage, especially during critical shopping seasons such as Black Friday

  • Work with the streaming channel editor to analyze what’s working and respond to important trends.


Essential skills and experience

  • At least 2-3 years of experience at an online media outlet covering streaming and entertainment

  • A desire to develop and grow streaming content audience using innovative ideas and keeping abreast of industry developments and trends

  • Ability to maintain high output level and thrive in a fast-paced environment

  • Proven ability to collaborate in cross-functional teams

  • Excellent communication skills

  • Strong industry contacts preferred

  • Experience promoting stories via cross-linking and social media

  • Ability to create short videos on streaming content for TikTok, Reels a plus

Please note, the salary for this position is $70,000

  • Please note, the salary range for this position is the lower end of the range needs to be the Union minimum & the upper end of the range needs to be + $5,000 of the Union minimum.

  • This is a position covered under a collective bargaining agreement between Future US, Inc. and the Writers Guild of America East
