Shaft Construction Inspector

McMillen Jacobs Associates has an opportunity for a construction inspector in our New York office within our Construction Management Practice. The Inspector will work at a project field office in the Queens, NYC on a shaft construction project.

The successful candidate will have experience in shaft construction, including ground freezing, soil excavation, drilling and blasting, rock bolts, mesh, and shotcrete initial support, waterproofing, and permanent linings. This position requires physical fitness necessary to make field visits and inspections of on-going shaft construction under various field conditions and ability to pass a medical clearance test for wearing a half mask respirator.

Responsibilities:

Inspect and monitor construction contractor's work and prepare daily inspection reports. Review contractor reports

Review and provide input into field related Submittals, Requests for Information, geotechnical information and data, and CPM schedules

Monitor the contractor's inspection of materials arriving on-site, monitor off-site production activities and/or any other construction activities in his/her area

Monitor construction for safety, quality, and compliance with Contract Documents, including schedule, standards, city ordinances, and agency requirements

Use agency construction management computer systems for preparing Inspection Report and obtaining Contract Documents, submittals, shop drawings, and work plans

Coordination with other inspection staff, geologists, and contractor personnel

Travel between two shaft sites daily to conduct inspections at each location

Flexibility to work swing shift or longer shift hours

Qualifications:

Associate Degree or bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering Technology, Construction Management Technology, Civil Engineering or Construction Management from an ABET/EAC accredited program; or, 15 to 20 years of documented experience in construction and construction inspection related to tunnels and underground infrastructure

2 or more years of experience in construction quality assurance/inspection program

Preferred current OSHA 30 Hour Training, preferred current First Aid and CPR training from a provider recognized by OSHA.

Knowledge of construction-related processes and industry practices

Ability to wear personal protective equipment such as a respirator; meet physical demands of the position such as walking, standing, lifting to 40 Lbs., climbing ladders, bending, squatting, and crawling in tight spaces to safely access work sites.

Knowledge of Word, Excel, Outlook, Adobe Acrobat.

Good written, verbal communication and organizational skills
