Columbia World Projects (“CWP”) is an initiative intended to better connect Columbia University with the world at large where laws and policies are made, actions taken, and norms and attitudes are shaped. CWP will facilitate the application of academic work in the context of a broader, global discussion to address fundamental challenges in our home city, around the nation, and across the globe.
Columbia World Projects seeks to hire a Short Term Casual - Program Assistant to support the day-to-day activities of the initiative. Reporting to the Director of Convenings & Scholarly Relations, the Program Assistant will provide, project, administrative, and research support to the CWP Research & Engagement team, which works closely with Columbia, external faculty and senior officials at partner institutions to convene working groups of scholars and practitioners to confront difficult problems within three focus areas, crises facing liberal democracies, challenges to shaping inclusive cities and conditions under which projects are successfully implemented and scaled.
The Program Assistant will work primarily on CWP’s “Election Infrastructure” initiative. This working group analyzes current barriers to voting, what constitutes a healthy electoral system, and how to broadly adopt local good practices in service of designing a bipartisan, independent election architecture composed of practices that increase voter participation and safeguard election integrity. The Program Assistant will provide support in other areas, particularly the recently-launched Implementation and Scaling initiative.
The position will begin spring 2021 and will last through the end of the summer, with the potential for extension.
• Assist with writing, editing, and presentation of various documents and materials;
• Support the planning and coordination of meeting and events, including weekly team calls;
• Attend CWP-related meetings, conferences, seminars, and events and prepare written summaries;
• Assist with internal and external communications;
• Compile data for projects, events, or meetings;
• Other duties as assigned.
High school diploma or its equivalent required. Minimum of two years related experience, or the equivalent combination of education and experience required.

Columbia University student preferred. Demonstrated ability to work independently and in a team. Strong computer proficiency--Microsoft Office: MS Word, MS Excel, and MS PowerPoint, Outlook; and Adobe Acrobat very desirable.
