The Amazon Web Services Analytics & Machine Learning team is looking for a seasoned fullstack engineer to build a brand new solution from the ground up which greatly simplifies our customers analytics needs.

The Amazon Web Services Analytics & ML team is one of the most dynamic, rapidly-growing teams; and is the leader in Data Analytics and ML services that help companies (from early-stage startups to large enterprises) innovate across the globe.

We are seeking a seasoned software development engineer to build new "Applied Machine Learning" capabilities which will add material improvements to our customers’ data analysis experiences. The ideal candidate is an engineer accomplished in technology delivery, product innovation, and working in high-performing, multi-functional teams capable of defining and delivering solutions that unblock transformational business value for our customers. In this role, you will collaborate with a broad organization of software developers, product managers, UX designers, subject matter experts, solutions architects, usability researchers. You will build and deliver architecturally and operationally sound, scalable, and resilient applied ML solutions in the exciting fields of deep learning, natural language processing, and graph ML.

Each Analytics & ML team is like a start-up. As a software development engineer in this fast and exciting space, you and your collaborators will own early development for new offerings as well as growth for existing offerings. This is an opportunity to contribute to the product vision and get in on the ground floor with a fast-growing and dynamic team. In this position, you will be required to build solid components while mentoring junior engineers. A successful candidate will have a demonstrated ability to think strategically and analytically about a product and its technical challenges, with the ability to build and convey compelling value into software; work cross-organizationally to deliver results, and dive technically deep to lead engineering decisions. You will engage and influence engineers and leaders on product vision and technical implementation activities.

Key job responsibilities

  • You will translate functional and technical requirements into technology solutions

  • You will drive software design and architecture, and own its reviews

  • You will interact with stakeholders including applied ML scientists, product managers and other engineers

  • You will drive to engineering best-practices including security, quality, and operational excellence

  • You will help define our technical culture and contribute to building a fast-growing team

  • You will design, build, and scale our front-end stack, back-end API’s and services.

A day in the life

A typical day on our team involves working on/implementing new cloud analytic features through web applications. Whether we're in design phase or all-in on implementation, you work closely with your peers along with the management and product teams to make sure we're creating the best experience possible and that our back-end services are ready to handle our scale in creative and innovative ways. Throughout the day you will also help out with code reviews for your peers, brainstorm ideas for improvements, etc.

We tackle complex challenges in multiple industries by taking ML from research ideas into production-grade services. You will be working on systems handling large datasets, beyond the conventional scalability limits. You will collaborate with data scientists and create new technologies that derive patterns from data.

  • 1+ years of experience contributing to the system design or architecture (architecture, design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and current systems.

  • 2+ years of non-internship professional software development experience

  • Programming experience with at least one software programming language.

  • 3+ years of relevant software development experience

  • Bachelors in Computer Science or Engineering, or equivalent experience

  • Ability to mentor junior engineers and influence technical designs of the team

  • Experience building scalable, distributed, front-end experiences

  • Proficient in a broad range of software design approaches and common UX patterns.

  • Experience with both backend and front end development

  • Proficiency with at least one modern language such as Java

  • Experience translating design mockups and prototypes into working application designs.

  • Experience in dealing with ambiguity and making data-driven decisions

  • Ability to work in a fast paced and agile development environment.


  • Motivated to drive tasks to completion and take ownership of projects

  • Demonstrated passion about technology, have a strong interest in learning about and playing with the latest technologies.

  • Experience communicating with users, other technical teams, and senior management to iterate on customer needs, describe software product features, technical designs, and product strategy

  • Experience with AWS

  • Ability to work in a fast paced and agile development environment.
