VMware Solutions Architect – Tanzu Mission Control - Opportunity for Working Remotely in New York, New York

Do you like developing and adapting solutions for customers that are using Kubernetes, both on-premises and in the cloud? Do you have a passion for DevOps and Operations surrounding the new unit of measure on the public cloud – Applications? Tanzu Mission Control (TMC), a core SaaS delivered component of VMware’s leading-edge Modern Apps & Management Business Group is looking for a seasoned, highly technical, and customer friendly candidate to work with customers on managing their Kubernetes based application platforms and the services those platforms use (such as EKS/RDS/SQS/Aurora - similar combinations on Azure and GCP).

As part of the role, you not only understand the customer’s business and technical needs and increase TMC’s SaaS usage (“sell”) but also become the customer’s key technical advisor for operations of their Kubernetes platforms and applications across public clouds, private data centers, and edge locations.

What type of work will you be doing? What assignments, requirements, or skills will you be performing on a regular basis?

As a new member of TMC’s Solution Architect (known as SVE internally) team you will:

  • Engage regularly (daily) with customers using TMC to help accelerate the realization of their business and technical objectives.

  • Ensure customers are using key Tanzu use cases properly and efficiently

  • Cultivate key relationships with technical stakeholders at customers through continuous engagement, focusing on delivering positive solutions, meeting their business outcomes, and ensuring a seamless customer experience.

  • Customer Champion and advocate

  • Serve as the first line of contact in existing customers for features, use, how-to, solutions development.

  • Proactively identify risks to the customer achieving their stated business goals and work with the TMC team to build a risk mitigation plan

  • Build deep relationships with people within customer environments at not only the technical level but also the business level

  • New use case and solutions development

  • Developing new use cases based on customer interactions and market trends (not just identify but also build out prototypes as needed)

  • Working with product management and engineering to ensure timely and targeted development and release on TMC adoption

  • Ensuring rapid time to value through timely and successful user training on existing and new features

  • Piloting POCs and betas as needed to expand usage of TMC

  • Proactively review customer consumption to help customers optimize their investment and grow the TMC business

  • Lead up-sell efforts by identifying additional use cases and positioning new solution offerings to clients evangelism

  • Development of blogs, opensource contributions, etc - As a trusted advisor to several customers, you will learn about use cases, issues in operations and how to solve them. We expect this knowledge to be translated into blogs, talks at conferences, and other formats.

What skills do we look for?

  • Demonstrated track record of successfully managing complex customer relationships in a technology service industry

  • Excellent communication skills, including with internal and external stakeholders and all levels of management

  • Directly support critical customer concerns and deliver workshops to train customers, partners, and the field

  • Proven record of driving issues to resolution with great customer satisfaction

  • Ability to manage multiple customer accounts, projects, and deadlines simultaneously

  • Willing to be a hands-on contributor and a proactive team player

  • Customer management / customer success experience preferably in SaaS organization

  • Ability to travel occasionally when needed and/or spend significant time interacting with customers remotely on solutions engagements

  • Excellent critical thinking and advanced troubleshooting skills

  • Participate and partner with product development to help define and contribute to development of solutions based on customer requirements

What do we look for in your experience?

  • Current or former Sales engineer / Solutions Architect is ideally suited or Customer Success Engineer or Professional Services experience

  • 2+ years of K8S experience (CKA or CKAD ideal)

  • 2+ years knowledge and hands on familiarity with AWS/Azure and/or GCP (Public cloud certifications a plus like AWS SAA, etc.)

  • Knowledge of application architecture and its components (preferably some knowledge of programming language like Python/Java/etc).

  • Knowledge of DBs like mySQL/Postgres/RDS, Redis, etc.

  • Knowledge of application lifecycle and management (CI/CD, GitOps, etc)

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, related field, or equivalent experience
