Description
The Amazon Fresh Grocery team is looking for an experienced Senior Category Manager. You will lead multiple facets of the business (e.g., buying/vendor management, product management, operations, marketing/merchandising) and identify growth opportunities. You will be able to deliver results at both a strategic and tactical levels across all aspects of the business.
You will have accountability for the business results of your product subcategories. Your direct responsibility will be to manage performance of the product portfolio including developing and growing vendor relationships, expanding product selection and vendor base, negotiating contracts, setting category strategy, developing marketing programs, driving sales and margin improvements and creating best-in-class customer experiences.
The ideal candidate will have strong customer experience, business and product sense combined with solid understanding of technical concepts. You must be able to thrive and succeed in an entrepreneurial environment, and not be hindered by ambiguity or competing priorities. High judgment, ability to influence, analytical talent, exceptional communications, and leadership are essential to success in this role.
Key job responsibilities
Accountable for category/subcategory financial performance; owns P&L and opportunities within.
Acquire, assort, and retire category/subcategory selection leveraging data and customer, industry, and/or supplier feedback.
Identify selection opportunities that maximize online and instore sell-thru and reduce shrink.
Negotiate with suppliers for improved product and operating costs.
A day in the life
Be the ‘business owner’ for your category/sub-category, working autonomously and possessing a complete understanding of internal and external variables that impact your business
Develop a thorough understanding of the industry, seasonality and global trends/events, and continually monitor competitor/industry developments
Coordinate cross-functional teams, and communicate with internal and external stakeholders, while meeting tight deadlines
Conduct financial analysis of business opportunities to meet and exceed revenue and profitability goals
Basic Qualifications
5+ years of with Excel experience
Bachelor's degree, or 5+ years of professional or military experience
Knowledge of Microsoft Access or SQL
Experience with business analysis and P&L management
Preferred Qualifications
Experience using data to influence business decisions
Experience driving direction and alignment with cross-functional teams
7+ years of account management, project or program management or buying experience
Experience negotiating with internal and external stakeholders

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $109,000/year in our lowest geographic market up to $185,000/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company. Dependent on the position offered, equity, sign-on payments, and other forms of compensation may be provided as part of a total compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits.
