Position Summary

The position is a part-time position dedicated to planning, developing, and maintaining the vegetable and butterfly gardens located at the Pace PLV campus and performing general tasks associated with the gardens.

Position Duties

The gardener will be responsible for:

  • Watering gardens and plants.

  • Weeding, mulching, and trimming in and around gardens.

  • Planting and transplanting plants and seeds.

  • Conditioning soils based on nutrient needs.

  • Preparing and maintaining flower and vegetable beds.

  • Pruning plants, shrubs, and trees.

  • Documenting and keeping growth records of selected areas.

  • Researching suitable plants and materials for designated projects.

  • Working with and instructing other students interested in gardening.

  • Maintaining garden tools and equipment.

  • Performing basic maintenance and repair tasks.

  • Ensuring the area in and around the garden is kept neat and clean and maintains a pleasing appearance.

  • Harvesting as needed

  • Perform general upkeep tasks as needed

    Position Qualifications

The main qualities for the position are:

  • Reliability – Being around during the growing season working the expected times and performing the expected tasks.

  • Good Communicator- Because things often happen on a fast-paced critical timetable communicating with others involved is important so that timely tasks are completed.

  • Enjoy working outdoors – Despite sometimes hard conditions work may need to be done.

  • Experience – Carpentry and gardening experience is a plus but not essential.

  • Good independent worker needing minimal supervision.

    Work Hours

Each would work approximately 6 hours/week for 20 weeks (120 hours per student over the period). Starting May 15 – September 15

Hourly Rate Range $15.00 - $15.00/hour
