Relationship Abuse Prevention Program

2023 Summer Peer Leader Position

What is it?

The Relationship Abuse Prevention Program (RAPP) is a program of The Center Against Domestic Violence, a non-profit organization. This is a 6-week summer program where teens come together from various NYC high schools and are paid to learn how to become Peer Leaders. Peer Leaders are trained in the topics of teen dating violence, sexual harassment, gender roles, communication styles, and healthy relationships. Peer Leaders are expected to be eager to learn during the program and be ready to teach others about these important topics by the end of the summer program. This is a wonderful opportunity to learn about these issues and develop your skills as a leader!

What is expected on a daily basis?

Your job is to learn, become a leader, and have some fun. There will be presentations by the RAPP Coordinators and guest presenters, workshops, small and large group activities, field trips, films, and group discussions. Peer Leaders are expected to arrive to work on time, participate in all activities, and be open to learning about these topics. The format will vary throughout the program, but we focus on educating Peer Leaders, team building, and leadership skills.

What are the hours, location, and pay?

The program will start on Wednesday, July 5th and go to Thursday, August 15th. Peer Leaders work Monday through Thursday from approximately 9:30am to 3:30pm with a 1 hour lunch break. Peer Leaders are paid minimum wage for the hours they work (approximately 24 hours/week) and are paid bi-weekly. Peer Leaders will be provided with a metrocard for 30 days of the 6-week program, then will be expected to provide their own metrocard for the remainder of the program.

What are the requirements?

We are looking for responsible and enthusiastic teens who are eager to learn. You will be required to speak in front of the group and you should be able to voice your opinions in a respectful manner. You will need to be available from 9:30am to 3:30pm, Monday through Thursday, for the entire summer program. Peer Leaders must be willing to adhere to the program policies.
