ABOUT THE POSITION
VHB's New York City team is looking for a Transit and Rail Planning Intern to join our Transit and Rail Planning Team. This is an exciting opportunity to work within a dynamic team, across diverse disciplines, giving you exposure to a wide variety of projects in size and scope.
Responsibilities
- Assist in development of transit planning studies and solutions
- Compile and analyze transit data
- Preparation of GIS-based mapping and graphics
- Support public and stakeholder engagement activities
- Prepare written documents, summarize information collected by others, and assemble reports
- Conducting site visits for various transit projects, as needed
- Consulting with transit agencies
- Coordinating and taking direction from project team members
Skills and Attributes
- Excellent communication (written and oral) and interpersonal skills
- Capable of conducting multiple assignments concurrently and working well within a team environment
- Familiarity with NYC and regional transit agencies and transportation policies
- Proficiency with communication, presentation, and data analysis tools
- Strong computer skills including Microsoft Office suite and ArcGIS
- A strong work ethic with the desire to learn and achieve
- Excellent attention to detail
Qualifications
- Candidates must be a current student working towards their Bachelor's or Master's degree in urban planning, transportation planning or engineering or related field
Our best estimate of the hourly salary range for this position located in New York is $19/hr - $28/hr. The final compensation will be based on a variety of factors such as individual qualifications, education, and experience.
