Axis Underwriting Governance Manager and Head of Commutations in New York, New York

As part of AXIS’s ambition to provide the most modern and sophisticated approach to underwriting, we have established an UW Governance team within the CUO Tower. Within the UW Governance team, we have created a new role, UW Governance Manager and Head of Commutations, who will report to the Head of UW Governance.

The main responsibilities of this role include:

UW Governance

  • Supporting the Head of UW Governance in designing and implementing a new UW Governance Framework, spanning all lines of business, including UW Guidelines, referral and peer review procedures and integration with related Governance Frameworks. This will include:

  • Analysis and documentation of existing. Governance Framework(s) in place across AXIS.

  • Needs analysis for the most efficient and effective UW Governance Framework for individual Lines of Business within AXIS.

  • Working with Technical Experts to define specific Guidelines and Referral triggers.

  • Working with BTS and others in developing systems and tools as required to efficiently implement the UW Governance Framework into day-to-day UW activities.

  • Management and administration of the existing UW Governance Framework(s) as required during transition, with initial focus being on reinsurance business. This will include:

  • Co-ordination and management of Technical Reviews and Referrals within Reinsurance.

  • Leading the Management Initiated Audit process within Reinsurance (File Reviews).

  • Other ad hoc tasks previously performed by Reinsurance Product Center.

  • Management and administration of the new UW Governance framework once implemented with exact responsibilities to be defined as part the design and implementation of the new UW Governance Framework.

Commutations

  • Leading all commutations, inwards and outwards, regarding AXIS Reinsurance business, working closely with Underwriting, Claims, Legal, Technical Accounting and other relevant parties, in accordance with existing guidelines and process (role and responsibility as previously held by Product Center).

  • Initiating appropriate actions following any AXIS reinsurance client entering liquidation.

  • Supporting the Head of UW Governance in designing and implementing a new Commutation Process to proactively identify and execute accretive commutation opportunities on all in-force AXIS business.

  • It is expected that the amount of time dedicated to proactive commutations will increase over time once the new Governance Framework and Commutation Process is established.

Competencies

  • Strong knowledge of reinsurance underwriting and issues in reinsurance contract wording.

  • Strong knowledge of technical accounting and the commutation process.

  • Knowledge and appreciation of legal and regulatory issues impacting contracts/industry.

  • Knowledge of AXIS Re UW Governance is preferred.

  • Ability to work effectively with various levels throughout the organization.

  • Excellent organizational and analytical skills.

  • Good oral and written communication skills.

  • Ability to analyze, verify, and offer potential solutions.

  • Organizational talent with excellent ability to coordinate, communicate, and facilitate.

  • Initiating appropriate actions following any AXIS reinsurance client entering liquidation.

  • Supporting the Head of UW Governance in designing and implementing a new Commutation Process to proactively identify and execute accretive commutation opportunities on all in-force AXIS business.

  • It is expected that the amount of time dedicated to proactive commutations will increase over time once the new Governance Framework and Commutation Process is established.

Expected salary range information for Zurich and London available on candidate request. For New York we expect to offer a base salary in the range of USD 180,000 to USD 240,000 . The specific salary offer will be based on an assessment of a variety of factors including the experience of the successful candidate and their work location.
