As a Strategy and Transactions (SaT) Senior Analyst, you'll help clients in the real estate, hospitality, tourism, and cruise sectors make these strategic decisions that drive growth. You will be an important part of a diversely talented, multi-cultural, and highly experienced team that works at the forefront of high-profile real estate and hospitality developments, transactions, and corporate investments in established and high-growth growth businesses. Our team of strategic advisors sits at the heart of both a 150-person US-based real estate Strategy and Transactions team and a global network of industry specialists who deliver high-quality advice throughout the investment lifecycle.

The opportunity

The Real Estate and Hospitality team works on complex and high-profile global strategic initiatives, transactions, and developments with a broad portfolio of clients, generally in the real estate, hospitality, tourism, and cruise sectors. We are a group of professionals with development, financing, brokerage, and ownership backgrounds, which enables us to bring a wealth of deep sector and functional knowledge to our clients on a variety of projects, including initial feasibility studies, business plan assessments and market analyses, business and asset sustainability assessments, new industry/business growth opportunity studies, and strategic divestitures. As a team, we prepare and execute business plans and identify ideas and sources of value enhancement, as well as advise on risk mitigation. Given today's uncertain economic times as well as the impacts of rapidly-advancing technology and shifting consumer preferences, the role of an independent strategic advisor has never been more important, and real estate developers to publicly traded companies to private equity to family offices are increasingly hiring EY to assess the market and help them plan for the future.

Your key responsibilities

Core areas of focus includes a variety of property types including hotels, multi-family residential, office, and retail.

  • Identify and analyze the issues that are core to the client’s business strategy and operations. Often interacting directly with clients, responsible for developing work plans, designing and conducting analyses, synthesizing conclusions and managing other team members.

  • Consultants will work on a variety of client issues, such as developing growth strategies for real estate and hospitality organizations and tourist destinations, performing financial and commercial due diligence related to transactions of companies and real estate assets, assessing attractiveness of potential targets, understanding new markets and conducting feasibility studies, assessing the critical success factors of an investment, unlocking the value of real estate holdings and supporting owners of underperforming assets, enhancing operations while, reducing operating costs and implementing change.

  • Participate in business development initiatives, sales/marketing activities and pursuits.

Skills and attributes for success

  • Strong knowledge of Real Estate finance.

  • Executing various analyses (e.g., market analysis, cash flow analysis, real estate valuation, current state assessment, prioritized strategic recommendations for growth, operational enhancement, development advisory, analyzing business plans and pro-forma models)

  • Foundational Skills – strategic thinking, innovating, cash flow modeling, business writing.

  • Effective organization and time management skills with ability to work under pressure and adhere to project deadlines.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft suite and comfortable with oral presentations.

To qualify for the role you must have

  • A bachelor’s degree or graduate degree in real estate, finance, and/or hospitality and at least 2 years of related work experience, MBA in a Masters in Real Estate Discipline a plus.

  • Experience in real estate or hospitality investing, development and/or operations, market research, private equity or investment banking with a real estate or hospitality focus, or strategic consulting related to real estate and hospitality or similar.

  • Ability to make detailed assessments of real estate and hospitality industry drivers, products, markets, competitors and customers to identify risks and opportunities.

  • Proficient in the English language, including the ability to listen, understand, read and communicate effectively, both in writing and verbally, in a professional environment.

  • Willingness and ability to travel, when necessary (approximately 15% - 30%).

  • Excellent problem solving, project management, facilitation, and interpersonal skills.

Ideally, you’ll also have

  • Previous experience in a mergers, acquisitions, development, or advisory role

  • Experience gained within another large professional services organization

  • Established networking skills in a relevant industry
