Vice President – Marketing Strategy and Planning

Global Commercial Services (GCS) is the division of American Express dedicated to creating products, services and solutions uniquely built for businesses of all sizes, from small business to large global businesses. The Marketing Strategy and Planning team sits within the GCS Marketing organization, specifically within Marketing Strategy and Prospect Marketing. We oversee brand strategy and standards for the commercial business and create connected, customer-focused marketing strategies and activation plans that build awareness and adoption of Amex’s suite of business solutions. This team is essential in driving key business goals such as primacy, acquisition, customer spend and engagement.

The Vice President of Marketing Strategy and Planning will set the vision for key strategic priorities, including major product or platform launches and the commercial brand. They will lead 3 strong Director teams that are the collective custodian of how GCS products and services are articulated to prospects and customers.

  • Two Director teams are project-based and lead all aspects of go-to-market for senior leadership-defined priorities, including new product launches and refreshes. They interface cross-functionally across the GCS organization applying robust insights to set impactful marketing strategies, set creative standards, develop activation campaigns and coordinate rollouts across marketing and marketing adjacent teams.

  • One Director team is focused on holistically defining how the American Express brand is articulated for the commercial audience, including utilizing robust insights to set our brand strategy, building broadscale awareness for GCS products with advertising, and defining how we leverage Enterprise brand engagement programs.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Lead a team of 21 marketers

  • Deliver a customer-focused go-to-market vision and strategy for top GCS organizational big bets such as the Business Gold Refresh, then bring them to life by developing and launching breakthrough activation plans

  • Partner effectively across Product, Prospect Marketing, Customer Marketing, Brand Engagement, PR and other relevant teams to roll out strategic projects impactfully and drive project-based results

  • Partner closely with the Kabbage organization to integrate the Kabbage platform and products into the American Express brand

  • Implement a strategic foundation for the GCS brand, applying customer research and insights to develop in-depth customer profiles and a set of GCS brand standards

  • Partner closely with the Global Advertising and Brand Management group to develop and launch ongoing above the line advertising campaigns to drive consideration for GCS products

  • Define how GCS leverages enterprise level brand programs, such as Shop Small and Member Week, to engage our customers

Qualifications

  • You love to tap into your creative side and have experience effectively leading an agency team through complex projects.

  • You’re a strong people leader who can lead, motivate and coach your direct reports.

  • You’re a highly effective communicator with strong interpersonal, oral and written communication skills that allows for the clear articulation of strategy and ideas, in order to influence key partners.

  • You have a “can do” positive attitude and willingness to adjust in the face of change quickly.

  • You thrive in a fast moving, dynamic environment.
