JPMorgan Chase Vice President of Inclusive Banking Research, JPMC Institute in New York, New York

Position Overview:

The JPMorgan Chase Institute seeks candidates with experience leading quantitative data and/or social science projects who will apply their expertise to inform private and public sector decision-making-including financial services, products, and practices development-with the ultimate goal of advancing racial equity and economic inclusion. The Vice President of Inclusive Banking Research will lead research that will inform private and public sector efforts to change financial services products and practices in ways that reduce racial gaps and other inequalities in wealth, resilience, and stability. S/he will collaborate with Institute leadership to source and prioritize research projects, and to manage the execution of those projects. The Vice President will lead and coach a data scientist and liaise with seasoned Institute research leaders to ensure projects receive sufficient guidance and direction; to leverage existing data sets, knowledge, and relationships; and to serve as an ambassador on behalf of the JPMorgan Chase Institute in synthesizing findings for executive audiences.

Job Responsibilities


  • Identify and prioritize timely and impactful research projects, and triage inbound requests for analysis.

  • Conduct original data analyses using large datasets of anonymized administrative data.

  • Work with research team members to develop analytics and design controlled experiments to test ideas and validate hypotheses.

  • Use data analysis techniques to develop insights that lead to new recommendations presented to management.

  • Work with large datasets using expert coding practices and big data programming languages on a Hadoop platform, and produce statistical and visual analytics.

  • Plan, execute, and partner with others to construct data assets in service of research projects .

  • Lead research projects through delivery, including drafting and presenting recommendations and delivering insights in a compelling manner actionable by senior leadership.

Outreach & Engagement

  • Experience working in the financial services industry and / or client services

  • Synthesize and communicate data insights and findings for senior executives, both technical and non-technical.

  • Work with bank colleagues to understand and contextualize research findings within business products, practices, and strategies and consider revenue and cost implications for the business as well as economic implications for customers.

  • Build and maintain internal and external relationships to promote engagement and collaboration.

Leadership & Project Management

  • Develop, plan, and execute research projects with guidance from research leadership.

  • Provide day-to-day coaching and regular feedback for direct and matrixed reports on their performance and career development, helping to prioritize and execute tasks.

  • Draft, coordinate input on, and bring to the finish line final products. Coordinate and help deliver executive presentations and progress updates.

  • Contribute to efforts to strengthen the Institute as an organization, including developing and refining processes and promoting a collaborative culture committed to the values of diversity, equity, and inclusion .

Candidate Qualifications:


  • Bachelor's degree in relevant discipline (e.g., Economics, Mathematics, Statistics, Public Policy, Data Science); Master's degree or higher preferred

  • 6-10 years of relevant experience, including substantial experience in data analytics and/or quantitative research, grounded in microeconomics, econometrics, or other relevant social science

  • Excellent problem-solving skills; track record of creativity, innovation, and initiative-taking

  • Experience analyzing racial gaps in socioeconomic or financial outcomes

  • Experience running randomized controlled experiments, pilots, or other program evaluations.

  • Experience writing modular / reusable code to perform statistical analyses on large administrative data sets (e.g., millions of records)

  • Experience with Scala, Python, and / or SQL preferred; experience with distributed Hadoop platform tools (e.g., Spark, Hive) and collaboration tools (git, Jira) is a plus

Outreach & Engagement

  • Excellent communicator able to convey complex information in an understandable, compelling, and persuasive manner to senior executives

  • Strong presentation skills and executive presence; e xperience synthesizing and presenting messages for non-technical audiences through writing, data visualization

  • Proven ability to build effective relationships and collaborate with colleagues and stakeholders

  • Experience working in the financial services industry and / or client services

Leadership & Project Management

  • 2+ years of leadership and project management experience, ideally within a research setting; ability to meet deadlines, effectively prioritize and delegate work, and manage project scope; experience managing internal or external clients preferred

  • Ability to effectively execute in a high-performance workplace, with strong organization and attention to detail

  • Experience leading and developing team members and creating an inclusive team environment
