VP - Software Engineering

Role/Responsibilities

We are seeking an experienced and seasoned Software Engineer who will be responsible for both hands-on development as well as overseeing and driving large complex technical applications and initiatives. The candidate will also be lead and consult on the architecture, design, development and implementation of multiple software development projects of various sizes & complexity. The candidate will have a proven ability to work within a team to help drive technical projects in an onsite/offshore delivery model in a fast paced environment.

Have experience providing technical leadership to development teams to ensure development of solutions within established architecture, and coding/technology standards.

Have hands-on experience designing and developing software with Java/J2EE (including JMS) and Windows .NET, in a consistent process-oriented manner

Extensive hands-on experience developing code utilizing modern agile development practices using private or public cloud (i.e. Docker & Kubernetes, AWS, Azure, etc.), utilizing automated test code, and following short release sprints varying from two days to two weeks

Conduct design and code reviews, ensuring proper coding, conformance to standards and best practices, including security, performance, reliability, scalability, extensibility and high quality.

Provide technology and design thought leadership to internal groups

Participate in regular cross-training exercises, including application development knowledge transition planning and delivery, as well as learning new technologies and methodologies

Participate in cross-departmental groups for the purposes of standards development, third-party tool evaluations, community of professionals, etc.

Participate in Production Support Escalation if necessary for high-severity issues

Qualifications

10 or more years' experience as a software engineer designing, and developing Java SE 8+/J2EE 7+ code

Experience in utilizing Agile development methodology, following DevOp practices (containerized execution code, automated testing, short development sprints); Lean Six Sigma accreditation a plus

Experience with ETL tools and complex data transformations

Strong written and verbal communication skills, able to communicate both technical and non-technical content clearly and succinctly to multiple audiences

Technical Experience & Qualifications

Strong experience with Java SE 8 and above, and Java EE 7 and above required

Experience developing reactive distributed applications, real time data pipelines and streaming applications, large-scale data processing applications, and Micro services required

Experience developing containerized code utilizing Docker with Kubernetes orchestration required (Public and/or Private Cloud flavors)

Experience developing Windows .NET applications required

Experience developing web services using SOAP & REST required

Experience with Cloud development (public or private) required

Experience with open source technologies such as Spring Framework (required), Hibernate (required), Kafka, and Apache Spark required

Experience developing user interface using Angular and/or JavaScript a plus

Experience with message driven application development using JMS on IBM MQ or equivalent a plus

Knowledge of SOA application development using ESB such as IBM IIB a plus

Experience with the following message formats required: XML, JSON, GPB, JMS message formats, Tagged/delimited structures, Binary (E.g. C structures) required

Experience with the following wire protocols required: IBM MQ, JMS, HTTP, TCP/IP Sockets, FTP, and SMTP

Object oriented design and development; ability to create design artifacts using UML such as object & data models, sequence and state diagrams, etc. a plus

Database experience developing and designing using complex data structures (Oracle, Sybase, ANSI SQL)

Experience with software change and configuration management processes and tools, such as Subversion, Git, Jira required

Experience using software build technologies such as Jenkins, Maven, Gradle, SonarQube/Coverity and Continuous Integration/Continuous Delivery required
