Dewberry Water and Water Resources Department Manager in New York, New York
Dewberry has an opportunity for an experienced and motivated Water or Water Resources Engineer to become the Department Manager to lead the Water and Water Resources design group in our New York City, NY office. This individual will work directly for the NY Operations Manager to lead a team of 10-15 engineers who provide professional services to numerous public agencies, running the office’s practice in water/wastewater engineering, water resources planning, hydrology and hydraulics modeling and engineering, flood resilience engineering, and climate adaptation design. This individual should have high competency levels in multiple sub-disciplines which should include hydrology, hydraulics, feasibility studies, stormwater design, H&H modeling, conveyance systems design, pump station design, watershed assessment, stormwater management and NY water/wastewater utilities.
He/She will also be responsible for conducting aggressive and targeted business development activities to grow the department, win more projects of increasing scale, and act as a Project Manager or Design Manager for large or complex projects requiring seasoned skills in managing sub-consultants and multi-disciplinary teams. Typical projects involve city, state, and regional clients in the water and risk, recovery and response market segments. The selected candidate will be heavily involved in staff professional development, growth, retention and recruiting, project management practices, and significantly contribute to sales and revenue generation of the branch’s various diverse practices. He/She should expect to act as client manager of at least one public agency.

Provide direction, guidance, and inspiration to a staff of 10-15 project managers, engineers, and technicians. Perform technical review of work done by staff.
Successfully perform as Project Manager or, in a design-build procurement, as Design Manager of large, complex jobs.
Recruit, retain, develop, and grow individual practitioners and teams.
Staff project management teams with the right number and type of skill sets to contribute to successful delivery.
Collaborate proactively and productively with other groups and company offices across the Northeast. As a center of excellence, provide skilled engineers in support of projects in other geographic markets.
Conduct business development activities and opportunity capture planning, proposal writing, and oversight; expected to lead a client team for an NY City or NY State client.
Responsible for operations that lead to meeting revenue and profit goals.
Actively contribute to the Water and Water Resources quality management program.
BS in Engineering with 15+ years of water/wastewater or water resources engineering and project management
Demonstrated project management success for sizeable projects in more than one of the following agencies: NYCDEP, NYCDDC, NYCEDC, NYCHA, PANYNJ. Emphasis is on NYCDEP and NYCDDC
MS Degree is desirable
Professional Engineer in NY is required
Professional Engineer in NJ is desirable
Design-Build experience as Design Manager or Lead Water Engineer is highly desired
Connections with agency capital project and program managers desirable
Experience writing winning proposals and leading successful client presentations for New York clients
Strong interpersonal and effective leadership skills
Proficiency using design software preferred by NYC and NYS agencies
Local travel will be required. Occasional regional travel is likely
Driving is a requirement of the position. A clean driving record is required
