Position Summary:

The Community Housing Specialist is responsible for advocating for all supportive housing residents who reside in LIHTC properties managed by external Property Management providers. Specialist collaborates to ensure that tenants secure and maintain stable housing. Specialist works in collaboration with multiple external Property Management providers, WLN’s Property Management Division, General Services, Fiscal, Residential teams and external social service providers. Specialist is required to visit LIHTC locations throughout NYC, Nassau, and Suffolk Counties on a regular basis.

ESSENTIALACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Coordinates initial lease-up with external property mgmt. providers.

  • Coordinate inspections of units with program staff and external property mgmt. providers.

  • Collaborate with general services and building superintendent regarding maintenance and general upkeep of buildings indoor and outdoor space.

  • Collaborate with property mgmt. providers and fiscal department to monitor arrears.

  • Provide advocacy to residents regarding rental payments and encourage utilization of electronic platforms to pay rent and avoid arrears and/or evictions.

  • Advocate with social services staff and external agencies to develop payment plans and access programs to assist with rental arrears.

  • Coordinate new applicants and Unit Transfers with external property mgmt. team.

  • Collaborate with the intake team to facilitate admissions of tenants, ensuring a seamless move in experience.

  • Coordination of re-certification notifications to tenants with external property mgmt. providers to assist tenants with maintaining housing while avoiding evictions.

  • Advocate for tenants relating to their recertifications and lease renewals

  • Participates in all tax credit reviews by outside entities.

  • Works with external property mgmt. providers to ensure files are produced timely and are free from errors and omissions

  • Works with external property mgmt. providers relating to move-ins and move-outs

  • Remain current with all Agency required compliance documents and trainings.

  • Attend supervision meetings, departmental meetings and trainings as scheduled.

  • Successful completion and certification of lihtc trainings.

  • Remain current with all Agency required compliance documents and trainings.

  • Complete additional duties as requested.

Qualifications

Associate’s degree with at least 1 year of experience working in property management environment. An individual in this position should possess strong organizational skills and a detail-oriented approach. Strong computer literacy skills are essential to this position. Must have certification in low- income housing tax credits (or obtain within 6 months from date of hire). Knowledge of HUD requirements and accounting experience is a plus. Good verbal and written communication skills are also required. Experience and/or education in working with people with disabilities is a plus. Must have a valid NYS driver’s license and access to a vehicle. Must be able to travel throughout the five boroughs and Long Island.
