Position Summary

This position in the Technical Packaging Engineering and Devices group and will lead the Concept Development, Design, Physical Fabrication, Invention, Specification, and Execution of manufacturing equipment and devices within the package engineering and Devices functions supporting all brands and categories as a corporate role. In addition , the successful candidate will lead and mentor junior engineers in fundamental engineering techniques relative to machine and device design and development.

10-15 years of experience in Machine and Device design and development with a proven track record of robust engineering innovation.

The individual must have the ability to:

  • Design and engineer in 3D CAD

  • Create and review system and component designs and drawings for appropriate fabrication technique and materials

  • Partner in the manufacturing to delivery mechanical systems meeting EHS and QA/GMP and regionally specific requirements

  • Engage with suppliers and package development groups to develop and manufacture assembly systems and components which meet ELC's specifications for performance and reliability

  • Leverage existing manufacturing knowledge holders and established handling and manufacturing techniques of components at our making and filling locations and provide innovative improvements in quality and speed of manufacturing.

  • Analyze Tool Qualification data and Troubleshoot packaging issues

  • Apply innovative engineering techniques in conceptualization and problem solving to new to the world products and services.

  • Communicate and document technical information clearly and develop these skills in others.

  • Work seamlessly with team members at all levels in the organization both inside and outside manufacturing and R&D groups

  • Lead full time employees, summer interns, and part time employees with focus on accuracy and reliability of outcomes.

  • Work directly with manufacturing and R&D to create technical understanding of what is possible, when it can be delivered, how it is to be delivered, and at what preliminary cost target.

  • Work with partners in R&D clinical and chemical scientists to insure optimum compliance to product efficacy in manufacturing.

  • Understand and follow the Package Engineering devices development Road-map tool for consumer facing machines.

  • Fabricate models using various additive and subtractive processes covering 3D grown parts through machined parts .

  • Develop additive manufacturing concepts and systems for cell, and just in time, manufacturing techniques.

Strong analytical, statistical and communication skills.

Technical mastery of fundamental engineering principles including electro mechanical systems, boundary control energy evaluations.

Understanding of device and manufacturing regulations and electrical regulatory compliances by region.

Mastery in fabrication techniques with machined metals and resins , sheetmetal fabrication and additive part design techinques.

Responsibilities:

-Develop new to the world manufacturing equipment, delivery systems, devices, and small scale cell manufacturing equipment.

  • Provide engineering direction and hands on fabrication including form, fit ,and function, of Electro-Mechanical Machine and Device Designs.

  • Create, evaluate, and approve engineering 2 and 3D files and drawings for machine and package component tooling

  • Lead DFMEA sessions involving multiple groups to insure safety , robustness, and efficacy of system performance and document same.

  • Create Engineering Profiles for costing specification, and create preliminary costed bills of materials to support procurement .

  • Assist our manufacturing locations and our suppliers in the fabrication and assembly of new and existing manufacturing machinerey and delivery systems and devices.

  • Develop and document new manufacturing system designs and processes

  • Collaborate with Package Design, Development, suppliers, and outside services as required to expedite the development process.

  • Participate in implementation of new systems and processes as required to improve, enhance and advance the basic mission of the Packaging Engineering and Devices Group.

  • Actively participate in Department’s innovation process and generate innovative concepts

Qualifications

Eng. degree preferably MS or PHD, Mechanical Engineering. Excellent fluency in Machine Design, Shop Fabrication, DFMEA. Adept in generating 3D CAD drawings (Solidworks preferred) for overall mechanical systems /part /and product design including renderings and animations. Technical mastery in the areas of plastics injection molding, tool / mold design, and troubleshooting and bench top fabrication techniques. Technical knowledge of electrical systems including logic controllers, circuitry, and operating systems. Strong analytical, statistical and communication skills. Technical mastery of fundamental engineering principles including electro mechanical systems, boundary control energy evaluations. Understanding of regulations and MFG equipment GMP compliances by region.
