Job Information Title: General Manager- Diesel Shops and Yards Department: Maintenance of Equipment Post Date: 4/07/2021 Close Date: 4/20/2021 Hay Point Evaluation: 1074 Salary: $118,285.00 (Minimum) Position Classification: Safety Sensitive Location: Queens Reports To: Chief Mechanical Officer This is a Non-Represented Position. Please note that this position has been designated as a “Policy Maker” pursuant to the New York State Public Officers Law & the MTA Code of Ethics. As such, you will be required to complete a Financial Disclosure Statement Summary This position is accountable to contribute to the overall corporate goals by management of activities related to the planning and implementation and Diesel Fleet maintenance shop and yard operations to ensure the fleet is in a state of good repair. Responsibilities Responsibilities may include but are not limited to: * Direct production output from all M of E Diesel shops and yards including scheduling of work assignments and monitoring output; oversight of time and attendance, OT audits, etc. * Direct the development of annual production plan for Diesel shops and yards, incorporating the M of E Department's production goals and requirements/projects, ensuring assimilation into departmental annual budget. Monitor production plan on a regular basis * Direct all maintenance of equipment projects related to Diesel overhauls/heavy repair and fleet modification to ensure projects are on schedule and within budget. Provide accurate reports to senior staff on a regular basis. * Select, develop and motivate subordinate staff. Analyze and provide feedback regarding performance of subordinate staff. . Provide career development for subordinates. Provide prompt and effective coaching and counseling. Responsible for discipline/termination of employees when necessary. Review direct reports and approve performance appraisals. Promote safe work practices and provide safe working conditions. Create a professional environment that respects individual differences and enables all employees to develop and contribute to their full potential * Ensure safety policies, procedures and standards are adhered to by all employees and prioritize how they affect our employees' and customers' safety. Ensure a safe working environment for all employees and develop preventative initiatives to address any issues. * Serve as a senior staff member of the M of E Department. Ensure department/company policies are administered in a fair and equitable manner. All other assignments at the request of the CMO and/or senior staff. Qualifications Preferred/Desirable Skills/Qualifications: * Bachelor's Degree in Business, Engineering or related field. Demonstrated, directly related, equivalent experience (15+years) and education may be considered in lieu of the degree, subject to approval. * Must possess progressively responsible, recent, related technical and managerial/supervisory experience. * Must possess the ability to effectively direct complex multi-dimensional rail transportation operations (or demonstrated equivalent) with a responsibility for rail car equipment including rolling stock maintenance, component replacement, and production planning (or demonstrated equivalent experience/education). * Must have the ability to plan for MU and diesel-hauled maintenance operations. * Must have prior experience managing a staff (preferably both craft/represented and management employees) and responsibility towards a section/department budget. * Must possess strong knowledge of all applicable Collective Bargaining Agreements (or demonstrated equivalent); maintenance-scheduling, and production oversight. * Strong leadership, managerial, operational, administrative, communication and human relations skills are a must. * Must be a competent and seasoned leader who will develop the capacities of the organization, have the experience to implement organizational change with strong judgment, problem-solving and decision-making skills. * Must be willing to work non-traditional hours for supporting emergency response, planned work, etc. Pay,Benefits, & Work Schedule We offer competitive salaries and an excellent, comprehensive benefits package, including: * Full Medical Coverage * Dental Coverage * Vision Care * Life Insurance * Comprehensive Sick Leave Benefits * Deferred Compensation * Vacation/Personal Leave Days * Transportation Pass Privileges * Pension Plan * In-house training seminars Other Information In addition to meeting the minimum requirements of the position, the selection process may include, but is not limited to, a pre-screening assessment (i.e., physical, written and/ or practical evaluation) and interview.
