Wayne ARC Special Education Teacher - Preschool Classroom in Newark, New York

At* The Arc Wayne* of Newark, NY, we are currently hiring a full-time Special Education Preschool Teacher* for our Roosevelt Children's Center*. The Special Ed Teacher will be responsible for the plan and implementation of individualized special education programs in the Toddler Development class.

The Special Education Teacher's position will be *available for the beginning of the school year 2019-2020 on 9/4/2019* with a schedule of Monday-Friday, 7:45 a.m. to 3:45 p.m., 186 days/school year plus 30 days summer program. *A DAY IN THE LIFE AS A SPECIAL EDUCATION TEACHER *

As a Special Education Teacher, you will plan and implement preschool special education classroom program utilizing an interdisciplinary team setting approach and will provide all children with developmentally appropriate preschool experiences that will maximize their skill development in all areas consistent with the High/Scope approach. You will supervise and evaluate teacher assistant/aide(s); 1:1/1:2 teacher aides and foster grandparent in the classroom including biweekly timesheets, attendance review, yearly performance appraisal, will coordinate and delegate all classroom activities and tasks while demonstrating ongoing leadership skills with the classroom team by promoting daily communication with all team members and clarifying performance expectations on a regular basis. You will establish and maintain good rapport with parents/guardians while being receptive to suggestions and concerns on an ongoing basis. You will also be responsible for at least weekly correspondence with parents and daily when requested to do so, as well as phone calls when needed.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

Must posses one of the following education/credentials:

  • M.S. in Special Education-Permanent Certification Area N-12 or,
  • B.S. in Special Education-Provisional Certification Area N-12, working toward Permanent Certification or,
  • B.S. in Special Education-Initial Certification Area-Birth-Grade 2, working toward Professional Certification

Experience:

  • Experience with preschool children with special needs preferred
  • Some lifting may be required
