Planned Parenthood of Greater New York Session Physicians - Per Diem in Newburgh, New York

POSITION SUMMARY Session physicians perform medical and surgical abortion procedures, LARC procedures and provide medical consultation for staff during clinic hours and on call as required.

JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Direct Clinical Care (85%)

  • Provides medical care which may include medication abortion provision, LARC placement and removal, contraceptive counseling and provision, STI counseling and treatment, LEEP provision and surgical abortion services (to 24+0 weeks’ gestation, depending on location and prior experience/training) and/or vasectomy in compliance with PPGNY’s Medical Standards and Guidelines.

  • Participates in the on-call system as needed.

  • Clinical Consultation and Training (10%)

  • Provides clinical consultation to advance practice physicians

  • Provides hands-on clinical training to trainees including residents, fellows, students and other clinicians. Administrative (5%)

  • Participates in Center chart audit procedures and reviews laboratory and diagnostic reports as appropriate. • Reports to the Regional Associate Medical Director on all medical complications and other matters as needed. • Participates in PPGNY’s quality management activities, including Debriefings and Root Cause Analyses, as required.

  • Provides input into the formulation and revision of the agency’s medical standards and guidelines and assures compliance with PPGNY’s and regulatory agencies’ standards and guidelines.

  • Completes all responsibilities according to established protocols, policies and standard practices in the areas of customer service, ADA and regulatory compliance programs such as HIPAA. Works effectively with volunteers.

  • Ability to demonstrate and document evidence-based clinical judgment

REQUIRED QUALIFICATION

  • Education Related Capability Requirements:

  • Requires successful completion of coursework culminating in certification either as Doctor of Medicine or Doctor of Osteopathy and active status for certification by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology or the American Board of Family Medicine. Must be licensed to practice in New York State.

  • Experience Related Capability Requirements:

  • Minimum of 2-3 years’ experience with surgical abortion provision. Expertise in sexual and reproductive health care is required. Requires basic computer/EMR proficiency.

  • Licensures/Certifications: Current NYS Physician License and Registration. Nexplanon certification. Current BLS certification.
