American Packaging Corporation Prepress Operator in North Chili, New York
SUMMARY: To prepare and stage press or laminator jobs. Prepress personnel are used in any capacity needed to stage items at any machine. All of these functions must be performed in the safest, most effective and efficient manner while adhering to established SOP's and quality standards.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Participate in training, embrace concepts of and actively practice the STOP Safety Program fundamentals to aid American Packaging Corporation's efforts to achieve a zero accident rate.
Participate in developing, understanding and following SOP's.
Carefully review and understand job jacket information, which provides essential specific job information including but not limited to quantity, dimensions, specifications and job numbers.
Detect, report and resolve all missing or substandard machine parts.
Retrieve, interpret and act upon information provided in a daily production schedule. This schedule identifies what products will be run, quantities, priorities, etc. Understand and interpret specifications contained in the printing specification and manufacturing specifications.
Successfully interact and coordinate with the mounting department with respect to the production schedule and the staging of jobs.
Successfully qualify, and operate the automated cylinder storage systems located by the mounter and the prepress area.
Successfully qualify, and operate the anilox cleaner and the core cutter.
Successfully qualify, obtain licenses, and operate a forklift, when required, to hoist anilox rolls and or other cylinders.
Be actively involved in machine changeovers to aid flexo and laminator operators with machine changeovers and miscellaneous housekeeping and cleaning responsibilities.
Strip mounted plated as requested.
Stock and remove thinning and clean-up solvents from pre-press and remove solvent drums.
Aid on press set-ups as needed.
Pull proper cylinders for runs and make sure they are prepared for upcoming press runs on Vision and W&H presses.
Effectively communicate with other shifts' Flexo Press Operators and Prepress personnel.
Adhere to all company safety guidelines.
Attend and participate in all company mandated meetings.
Business travel required.
Any other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
High school diploma or GED
Minimum of two years recent/applicable manufacturing experience.
Acceptable prior work history
LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of the organization.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals. Ability to compute percentages and interpret bar graphs.
REASONING ABILITY: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee works near moving mechanical parts and is exposed to fumes or airborne particles (works in an environment where solvent based inks are used). The employee frequently works in high, precarious places, in humid conditions (summer humidity, plant is not air conditioned), and is exposed to electrical shock (only authorized maintenance personnel are allowed access to electrical cabinets).
The noise level in the work environment is usually loud. Hearing protection is mandated.
