    Desired Qualifications:

    OVERVIEW:

    The Instructional Leader for Science will be responsible for supporting the PreK-12 science curriculum and instruction across the Greece Central School District. This individual will specifically focus on supporting science education by leading curriculum development, providing professional learning for other science teachers, coordinating science-related initiatives, and ensuring high-quality instruction across the entire school district. This individual should also have knowledge of analyzing assessment data and be able to support buildings, administrators, and teachers with science related action steps for improvement goals. The Instructional Leader for Science will directly report to the Director of Mathematics and Science.

    QUALIFICATIONS:

    Must hold valid NYS Teacher Certification (preference given to concentration in science)

    Must be current Greece Central School District tenured teacher

    Must have rated Effective or Highly Effective on 2023-24 Annual Professional Performance Review

    Must be able to work with building administrators, teachers and staff, district office administration, other TOSAs, and community stakeholders

    Must have strong background knowledge of the New York State P-12 Science Learning Standards

    Must understand and be able to support the New York State ELS, ILS, Biology, ESS, Chemistry, and Physics Investigations

    Must have strong understanding of the 3 dimensions of learning with phenomenon based instruction

    Must be able to lead science focused conversations and professional learning

    Must be willing to participate in the curriculum review cycle which includes supporting researching, developing, evaluating, and implementing curriculum

    Must have solid understanding of culturally responsive education

    Must have excellent communication skills, organizational skills, and time management

    Position Summary/Responsibilities:

    RESPONSIBILITIES:

    Directly support the needs of science instruction for the entire district

    Work alongside teachers in the classroom by providing targeted feedback, modeling best practices, and/ or collaborate on improving effective teaching strategies

    Organize and provide professional learning for PreK-12 on science content, instruction, pedagogy, and curriculum

    Provide training for New Teacher Induction (both during the summer and school year)

    Support the administration of assessments (both locally and state)

    This includes facilitating and organizing Regents grading in January and June

    Facilitate and support science curriculum adoptions with publishers, companies, and BOCES

    Lead curriculum development with the goal to create culturally responsive, horizontally and vertically aligned curriculum with comprehensive scope and sequences for the entire school district PreK-12

    Keep current with best practices for curriculum, instruction and assessment

    Keep current with NYS standards and mandates

    Support building goals and evaluations with the intention to seek continuous improvement

    Support purchasing, organization, and storage of science related materials

    Organize and provide professional learning during Superintendent's Conference Day(s)

    Coordinate meetings for science staff

    This includes ILNs and District-Wide Department Meetings

    Work in collaboration with Director of Mathematics and Science to ensure cohesiveness and shared visions

    Prepare written and oral presentations as requested by the Director of Mathematics and Science

    Execute other tasks as assigned by the Director of Mathematics and Science

    May be required to mentor new hires across the district as needed with supervisor approval

    May be required to act as a building substitute, cover classes, or long-term substitute if necessary and with supervisor approval
