The Nurse Practitioner will assist in clinical and infrastructure functions of the Cardiology Section of the Medical Service. The NP will be responsible for providing specialty care to patients referred to Cardiology and will act as a consultant to the larger health care system. The NP will have a primary, but not sole, focus for providing specialty care in the area of cardiac electrophysiology and pacemaker/defibrillator management. The incumbent must have experience managing arrhythmias and implanted cardiac devices such as pacemakers and defibrillators. In addition, the incumbent must be academically and clinically prepared to perform a broad spectrum of patient care services at the expert level, including management of general cardiology patients and patients with congestive heart failure.
The incumbent will conduct outpatient clinic appointments, interrogate implanted cardiac devices, perform peri-procedural evaluation of cardiac patients, and perform cardiac stress tests. As an integral part of a multi-specialty cardiac care team, the practitioner will foster patient trust and confidence through integrity, knowledge, teaching, availability and continuity for the patients.
The NP is an advanced practitioner with a strong clinical background, responsible for diagnosing, planning, providing, and evaluating health care for an assigned group of patients. The incumbent will function as an independent practitioner in collaboration with a physician to provide health care in a variety of health care settings. The scope of practice is defined according to his/her collaborative agreement. The PA/NP may function in clinical, administrative, research and educational settings to continuously promote and improve the quality of patient care practices. The incumbent is responsible to maintain the competency of his/her practice through peer review or other quality improvement activities.

Basic Requirements: - United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy. - English Language Proficiency. NPs appointed to direct patient-care positions must be proficient in spoken and written English - Education: Possess a Master's degree from a program accredited by The Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) or The Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE). - Registration, Licensure, Certification: - Current, full, active, and unrestricted registration as a graduate professional Nurse in a State, Territory or Commonwealth (i.e., Puerto Rico) of the United States, or the District of Columbia. - Licensed or otherwise recognized as a Nurse Practitioner in a State. - Maintain full and current certification as a Nurse Practitioner from the American Nurses Association or another nationally recognized certifying body.
Grade Determinations: The following criteria must be met in determining the grade assignment of candidates, and if appropriate, the level within a grade: - Nurse I Level III - A Master's degree in nursing (MSN) or related field with a BSN or Bachelor's degree in a related field and no additional nursing practice/experience. - Nurse II - A Master's degree in nursing or related field with a BSN or Bachelor's degree in a related field and approximately 1-2 years of nursing practice/experience; OR a Doctoral degree in Nursing or meets basic requirements for appointment and has Doctoral degree in a related field with no additional nursing practice/experience required. - Nurse III - Master's degree in Nursing or related field with BSN or Bachelor's degree in a related field and approximately 2-3 years of nursing practice/experience; OR a Doctoral degree in Nursing or related field and approximately 2-3 year's of nursing practice/experience.
Reference: VA Regulations, specifically VA Handbook 5005, Part II, Appendix G-6 Nurse Qualification Standard.
Preferred Experience: Two to three years of experience providing specialty care in the area of cardiac electrophysiology and pacemaker/defibrillator management; experience managing arrhythmias and implanted cardiac devices such as pacemakers and defibrillators.
Physical Requirements: Applicant must possess the ability to do the following: moderate lifting and carrying up to 44 pounds; pulling, pushing and reaching above the shoulder; walking, standing, kneeling and repeated bending.

Annual leave shall accrue for full-time Nurses and Nurse Anesthetists at the rate of 8 hours for each full biweekly pay period.
