Consumer Reports Managing Editor, Content Updates in NY, New York

CR is one of the world’s most influential mission driven media organizations. Our 2.9 million members and more than 13 million unique visitors monthly visit CR.org for daily consumer news and insight articles, as well as, to review our independent and trusted feedback on over 8,500 products and services.

The newly formed Content Updates team ensures that our product and service content is up-to-date, SEO-optimized and inclusive of the latest marketplace trends. As Managing Editor of the team, you will manage a small team of staff and freelance writers. Reporting to the Home & Appliances Content Development Team Leader, you will also work closely with CR’s editors, test engineers, and other in-house experts in the Home, Tech, Health, Food, Cars, Money and Shopping categories. The work is fast-paced and data-driven, and the ideal candidate will have excellent organizational skills and the ability to work in a highly matrixed environment.

Under our CRFlex program, this is a hybrid position that is eligible for remote work.

How You'll Make An Impact:

You will have the opportunity to grow and develop new talent for CR’s Content Updates team, as you lead a small team of staff and freelance writers/reporters to maintain and update content from across our digital portfolio. You’ll get to work closely with our subject matter experts across the organization, from our SEO team to anticipate demand for content, testing and market analyst teams to ensure accuracy and currency of content. As the team lead, you’ll also plan and maintain the editorial calendar, scheduling content production and publication.   • You have a degree in a relevant field. You have a BA/BS or graduate degree.

  • You have proven experience. You’ve spent 7-10 years in a strategic content role within a fast-paced digital environment.

  • You’ve managed and mentored. Prior experience managing others, as well as managing and maintaining significant content portfolios.

  • You are deadline-driven. You have the attention to detail and organizational prowess to be successful in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.

  • You are strategic and SEO-savvy. You have experience with SEO data and how to optimize content to meet deliverables.

Our Commitment to Fair Pay:

At Consumer Reports, we are committed to fair, transparent pay and we strive to provide competitive, market-informed compensation. The target salary range for this position is $140,000-$150,000. It is anticipated that most qualified candidates will fall near the middle of this range. Compensation for the successful candidate will be informed by the candidate’s particular combination of knowledge, skills, competencies and experience. Salary ranges for union positions are determined by collective bargaining agreement with the NewsGuild of New York.
