The Department of Campus Recreation at the State University of New York College at Oneonta invites applications for the position ofAssistant Director of Campus Recreation for Sports Recreation.Expectations include, but are not limited to, visionary leadership over all sports recreation programs, maintain the schedule for Chase gymnasium and other recreation facilities and resources, supervise intramural sports operations and budget, advise all club sports and the Club Sports Council, create open recreation and one day recreation opportunities, supervise student employees, and work with the other Campus Recreation offices to achieve department goals.

Duties include but are not limited to:

The Assistant Director for Sports Recreation reports to the Director of Campus Recreation as a part of the Recreation team in the Division of Student Affairs. This position may have a non-traditional work schedule.

LEADERSHIP

  • This position will be responsible for the visionary leadership, oversight, supervision, and assessment of sports recreation programming on campus

  • Foster a culture and environment that is welcoming to diverse populations, respectful, and manifests a positive healthy relationship with fitness and physical wellness

  • Create space that cultivates community for students

  • Advocate for the needs of our students in relation to sports recreation

  • Partner with other departments to create/support recreational opportunities across campus

  • Effectively manage risks associated with sports recreation

SUPERVISION

  • Oversee the day-to-day operations of the intramural sports program for student staff

  • Recruit, train, supervise, and evaluate student workers

  • Manage staffing for club sport events

  • Advise all club sports, both recognized and registered

  • Oversee and provide guidance for the Club Sports Council to ensure club budgets, travel, associated risks, resources, and administrative responsibilities are appropriately managed

PROGRAMMING

  • This position is responsible for all sports recreation programming and recreation facilities scheduling for to the campus community including intramural sports, club sports, open recreation, and one-time events/special programming

  • Equipment Management:

  • Order, inventory, and responsibly manage all sports recreation equipment.

  • Organize a system for students to rent out sports equipment

  • Serve as one of the primary contacts for Outdoor Programs trips

ADMINISTRATION

  • Oversee department administrative functions in the absence of the Director of CR

  • Responsibly maintain an operational budget for sports recreation facilities and programs

  • Schedule outside groups in the Chase PE Building and AFH Dance Studio

  • Monitor and collect data from daily recreational use of sports recreation areas for annual reporting

  • Work with the Athletics and the Exercise Science Department to schedule gyms, fields, and the natatorium

  • Participate in department student experience assessments

Salary commensurate with experience:$37,249.

Requirements:

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree

  • Degree in recreation, physical education, sport management, exercise science, or a related field OR 3+ years of experience in sports management

  • Professional work experience in campus/comprehensive recreation intramural or club sports administration

  • Experience supervising student staff

Preferred:

  • Master's degree in recreation, physical education, sports management, exercise science, or a related field

  • Active involvement in campus recreation or higher education professional organizations

  • 3+ years of experience in sports management

  • Demonstrated competence in training and supervising a team of sport officials, and coaches

  • Officiating experience and certifications

  • First Aid & CPR certifications or greater (or willingness to obtain within 90 days of employment)

  • Experience working with and serving diverse
