Job Description:

The Department of Sociology at the State University of New York College at Oneonta invites applications for a tenure track position as an Assistant Professor of Sociology beginning Fall 2023. Expectations include, but are not limited to, teaching, research, student advisement, college service, and continuing professional development.

The Department of Sociology is home to majors in Sociology and Criminal Justice. The thriving Department, whose eleven faculty is highly collegial and engaged as teachers, scholars, and mentors, actively pursues the development of a dynamic learning environment for students. The Department is part of the School of Sciences, which consists of 10 academic departments and 2,300 students majoring in 20 programs. Duties include but not limited to:teaching courses on health and medicine, health care, quantitative methods, and other courses to meet department needs; collaborating on regional health research projects; providing service to the department and university.

Requirements:

Required Qualifications:

  • PhD or ABD in Sociology, DPH in Public Health, or related discipline (doctorate required by time of appointment)

  • Quantitative Methods Expertise

  • Medical Sociology or Public Health Expertise

Preferred:

  • Expertise in one or more of the following

  • GIS

  • American Health Care

  • Rural Health

  • Social Epidemiology

  • Crime/Criminology

  • General Research

  • General Teaching

  • Experience in teaching, mentoring, research, or service with diverse and/or multicultural populations
