SUNY Oneonta Associate Director of the Center for Racial Justice and Inclusive Excellence in Oneonta, New York

Job Description:The Office of Equity and Inclusion at the State University of New York (SUNY) at Oneonta invites application for the position of Associate Director of the Center for Racial Justice and Inclusive Excellence.The Associate Director will partner with the Director to provide visionary leadership for the Center for Racial Justice and Inclusive Excellence (CRJIE) whose mission is to foster a safe space and a sense of belonging for all members of the SUNY Oneonta community. The CRJIE will provide a new space for diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) to be taught, learned, and celebrated as well as opportunities for the campus community to engage in collaborative education and experiences related to DEI. The position in partnership with the Director will contribute, significantly, to ongoing progress on the campus' diversity, equity, racial justice, and inclusive excellence goals. It will also enhance the progress on student retention, persistence, and completion rates, especially for students from underrepresented backgrounds.In this role, the Associate Director will collaborate in efforts to provide a diverse, equitable and inclusive environment committed to the success of all students and to enhance a shared sense of belonging. This includes creating programming, educational opportunities, and initiatives that address diversity-related topics affecting the student body - developing and implementing programs that promote students' development of intercultural competence; and organizing programs that enhance students' capacity for critical thought around issues of diversity and inclusion, as well as their ability to engage across differences and create inclusive spaces. Also working in close partnership with the Center Director and colleagues across campus, the position will assist with creating campus- wide diversity and inclusion trainings, programs, and events, including the celebration of various heritage months and engage in direct support and advocacy efforts.A vital member of the CRJIE/OEI administrative team, the Associate Director of the CRJIE will provide support for unit programs and functions and will report to the VPDEI. Hire, train and supervise student managers to monitor the Center and to provide support for programs, events and other activities held in the Center. Provide leadership development opportunities for student organization officers and trainings to student organizations. Ensure the provision of supportive spaces in the Center for students of marginalized groups on campus. Plan and organize the CRJIE Q Welcome Back event in the fall and the spring Sizzle into Summer End of Year BBQ in collaboration with other departments and OEI staff.Support the designing and coordination of programs within the Center with a focus on racial/social justice and other identity related issues, in collaboration with the Divisions of Academic Affairs, Student Affairs, College Advancement etc. Partner with the Center Director and campus departments in the planning and organization of campus-wide activities to commemorate MLK Day, Women's History Month, and various Heritage Months (Hispanic Heritage Month, Black History Month, Native American Heritage Month, etc.), and events/dates. Assist the Office of Equity and Inclusion Staff in planning and facilitating expanded DEI trainings, as needed. Assist with the planning and organization of the annual Student Diversity Leadership Conference (SDLC) in collaboration with the SDLC Planning Committee and other relevant partners. Serve on campus committees as requested/needed. Supervise the Assistant Director for Student Diversity and Engagement and DEI Program AssistantSalary: $60,000. Information on SUNY's comprehensive benefits offerings can be found at https://www.suny.edu/benefits.Requirements:Minimum Qualifications:Bachelor's degree.At least 1 year of direct or related professional experience, including but not limited to working in higher education, student leadership, racial and social justice, or other DEI related field.Demonstrated experience creating or leading collaborative working relationships with a diverse range of individuals and groups.Excellent organizational, analytical, and communication (oral and written) skills.Ability to work evening and weekends as needed for effective program administration.Preferred:Master's degree in higher education; student affairs; diversity, equity, and inclusion; or related field.At least 2 years of relevant full-time professional experience related to racial and social justice issues in higher education.At least 1-year of supervisory experience.Demonstrated knowledge of current and historical theories, practices, and trends related to diversity, equity, and inclusion work and social justice education and the ability to understand and adapt to cultural difference within a group environment appropriately and effectively.Experience developing and facilitating workshops on racial justice and DEI related issues to a wide variety of constituents.Prior experience developing, and/or providing student and/or employee programming focused on diversity, equity and inclusion/belonging.Additional Information:SUNY Oneonta enrolls about 5,500 students who pursue bachelor's or master's degrees or certificates in one of 70-plus academic programs.
