The Office of Equity and Inclusion (OEI) at the State University of New York College (SUNY) at Oneonta invites applications for the position of Director of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) Initiatives and Operations. This position is critical in fostering the College's strategic vision for DEI. It will contribute, significantly, in fostering a positive campus climate and assessing learning outcomes and DEI efforts.
The Director will provide visionary leadership in support of efforts to foster a safe, welcoming, supportive, and inclusive, environment for all members of the SUNY Oneonta community through assessment of all OEI and DEI initiatives. The position will contribute, significantly, to ongoing progress on the campus' diversity, equity, racial justice, and inclusive excellence goals through the development of partnerships that will help in effective collaboration and support. It will also enhance the progress on student retention, persistence, and completion rates, especially for students from underrepresented backgrounds through periodic needs assessments and the recruitment and retention of employees from diverse backgrounds through the development and coordination of support initiatives.
A vital member of the OEI administrative team, the Director of DEI Initiatives and Operations will provide support for unit programs and functions and will report to the Chief Diversity Officer. DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:
Coordinate strategic planning and continuous assessment of all OEI and DEI activities; notably the monitoring and reporting on the implementation of the College's diversity plan.
Work on grant-related efforts in collaboration with the Research Foundation.
Work with OEI staff to coordinate and facilitate diversity and inclusion sessions at new and transfer students' orientation.
Assist with the assessment of the Peer Mentor program for first year and transfer students.
Collaborate with the Office of Admissions to foster recruitment of historically underrepresented students; attend Open Houses.
Co-coordinate the Oneonta Take Action Program (previously the Action Hero Program), in collaboration with the Health Education Office.
Collaborate with IT and the Office of Communications and Marketing as regards OEI and campus-wide DEI-related publications.
Carry out activities to enhance the visibility of the OEI and campus community DEI-related efforts, including, coordinating the social media presence.
Support the planning and organization of the Kente Graduation Ceremony.
Assist with DEI research and publication efforts.
Assist with the evaluation of DEI learning outcomes and other campus DEI efforts.
Coordinate the assessment and reporting on the Bias Act Response Team (BART) response process, as needed; serve on BART and coordinate reporting.
Assist with the monitoring, evaluation, and reporting functions of the PRODiG (promoting, recruitment, opportunity diversity, inclusion, and growth) program - a SUNY-wide initiative to increase diversity of tenured faculty.
Work with OEI staff to design and co-facilitate campus-wide DEI trainings as needed.
Assist with various DEI projects, as needed
Serve on the Student Diversity and Leadership Conference Planning Committee
Serve as a liaison for the OEI with the broader campus community, including serving on various campus committees and performing other duties as assigned
Required qualifications: bachelor's degree; at least 5 years of relevant experience providing support at the senior administration level on a variety of projects; experience gathering, analyzing, and interpreting data and statistical reports related to DEI; experience in creating action plans with tangible, measurable outcomes/indicators; demonstrated excellent organizational and report writing skills; experience updating website and coordinating social media platforms; experience working on bias act response related issues, demonstrated experience creating and maintaining collaborative working relationships with administrators, faculty, staff, students and external partners.
Preferred: master's degree in education, communication studies or other social sciences field; at least 3 years of successful relevant full-time professional experience related to DEI in higher education; experience in grant writing with proven success in acquisition of grants; demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects and effectively complete projects with tight deadlines; experience using results of analyzed DEI data in implementing meaningful actions with progressive outcomes; experience serving on a bias act response team in a higher education setting; demonstrated ability to think critically and creatively; highest ethics, integrity consistent with the position; and experience working with and serving diverse populations.
