SUNY Oneonta Inventory Control Manager and Lecturer in Oneonta, New York

Are you the missing element in our periodic table of staff? The Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry at the State University of New York at Oneonta has an opening for a detail-oriented and creative support professional for a full time 11-month position as Inventory Control Manager and Lecturer. This person reports to the department chair. Expectations include inventory control management and teaching. Continuing professional development is encouraged.

The Chemistry and Biochemistry Department is a cohesive group of 14 full-time faculty and staff members who nurture approximately 60 chemistry and biochemistry majors and serve about 300 students from other departments each semester. With a training program approved by the American Chemical Society, the Department maintains several active research programs and outreach to high schools.

Duties include but not limited to:

  • Staffing and overseeing the Chemistry & Biochemistry storerooms.

  • Ordering, acquiring, receiving, and distributing equipment, chemicals, and supplies.

  • Managing hazardous waste.

  • Complying with regulations regarding chemicals storage and disposal.

  • Assisting faculty members and students with chemical safety practices.

  • Managing an inventory control system for department chemicals and supplies.

  • Conducting physical inventories.

  • Maintaining records of procurements and departmental supplies budgets.

  • Responding to email, telephone and walk-in inquiries about chemical and material stocks and safety.

  • Teaching chemistry laboratory or lecture.

  • Performing routine maintenance on major equipment.

Job Requirements:

Required Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in chemistry or a closely related field.

  • Familiarity with safe handling and storage of chemicals

  • Experience teaching chemistry laboratories.

Additional:

  • Experience with safe handling and storage of chemicals

  • familiarity with chemical inventory and financial information systems.

  • Experience working with diverse populations, teaching pedagogies and/or multicultural learning venues.

Preferred:

  • Experience with chemical inventory, accounts management, and financial information systems.

  • Experience teaching undergraduate chemistry lectures.
